EDWARD P. SHERLOCK, JR., chief of the Annapolis (MD) Lire Department, has been appointed to the State of Maryland Fire Prevention Commission. He has been chief of the AFD since 1987 and currently is chairperson of the Fire Chiefs Council, Baltimore Metropolitan Council.

Brother WALTER KlEFFER. O.S.B., has announced his retirement as fire chief of the Saint John’s University Fire Department, where he has served for 23 years and as chief for 12 years. During Kietter’s tenure, a campus-wide, computerized fire detection system was installed; in recent years, the only building lost to fire was as part of a training exercise.

■ At festivities celebrating the centennial of the New York State Volunteer Firemen’s Home in Hudson, New York, the UNIONDALE (NY) FIRE DEPARTMENT ANTIQUE SOCIETY AND MUSTER TEAM came away with two apparatus awards—first place 1920-1929 original for its 1924 Larrabee and second place 1950-59 for its 1952 Mack. The competition, part of the Volunteer Firemen’s Home Centennial Parade and Muster, included 235 departments, companies, and associations and more than 215 apparatus, both antique and new. Also at the celebration, a world record was set for the longest bucket brigaderunning 2.2 miles and including more than 2,000 participants.

■ BRUCE T. SlNCOX has been appointed director of fire protection-foreign building operations for the U.S. Department of State, which places him in charge of an organization of building and fire protection professional/engineering staff providing uniform building and fire code applications for U.S. embassies and associated structures worldwide. His 24year career includes having served as fire protection manager for the U.S. Air Force Tactical Air Command and as fire protection engineer for the State Department.

■ The Boise, Idaho, mayor has promoted RENN M. ROSS to the position of fire chief from that of deputy chief of operations. Ross is a 15-ycar veteran of the department whose former experience includes serving as fire chief of Star, Idaho, for eight years, and holding positions within the Boise Fire Prevention Bureau as well as within the Boise Interagency Fire Center.
