A fire science administration major and an online student at Waldorf, Eastman is a firefighter with the Mason City (IA) Fire Department. He graduated with an associate degree in liberal arts from North Iowa Area Community College in December 2010 and has completed a year of his online bachelor’s degree at Waldorf. www.waldorf.edu.
alt   >> Battalion Chief DENNIS LAWSON has retired from Ocala (FL) Fire Rescue after working in the department for 23 years. Prior to his appointment as fire marshal, he previously served as a firefighter, an emergency medical technician, a captain, and a fire inspector.

>> RONALD J. SIARNICKI received the International Fire Service Training Association’s 2012 Everett E. Hudiburg award. Siarnicki is the executive director of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF). He began his career as a volunteer firefighter in Monessen, Pennsylvania. He joined the Prince George’s County (MD) Fire/EMS Department (PGFD) in 1978 and progressed through the ranks to chief of the department. In 2001, Siarnicki retired from PGFD and was appointed executive director of the NFFF, where he manages its daily operations. Under his direction, the NFFF developed the Everyone Goes Home® Program, designed to reduce the number of firefighter line-of-duty deaths that occur each year in the United States.

>> Maryland State Fire Marshal WILLIAM BARNARD received the 2012 Bringing Safety Home Award from Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) and the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA’s) Fire Sprinkler Initiative. The two nonprofits recognize the efforts of fire chiefs who use HFSC’s educational materials and the Fire Sprinkler Initiative’s resources to ensure that decision makers have accurate information as new or updated residential fire sprinkler codes are considered. www.homefiresprinkler.org. www.firesprinklerinitiative.org.

>> Hank Clemmensen was named the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) president and chairman of the board for 2012-13. Clemmensen is the chief of the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District in Inverness, Illinois. He will provide leadership for an 18-member board of directors for the IAFC and will serve as its primary spokesperson on national and international matters. Clemmensen served as president of Illinois MABAS Division I from 2005-7, as president of IAFC Great Lakes Division from 2007-9, and as vice president of the IAFC from 2010-12.
