Thompson Nominated
Dr. B. J. Thompson, former superintendent of the National Fire Academy, has been nominated by President Ronald Reagan as administrator of the U. S. Fire Administration, according to FEMA. It would be Thompson’s job to oversee programs focusing on fire prevention.
Formerly, Thompson was chief of the Santa Ana (Calif.), Fire Department and later city manager there. He has also been a professor at California State University and a consultant to the Strategic Air Command’s fire science program.
FEMA Appointments
The Federal Emergency Management Agency has announced three appointments. Gerald S. Martin, formerly director of the Professional Standards Bureau for the Compton (Cal.)Police Department, will become executive administrator for the director of FEMA; Charles M. Girard, formerly director of human resources for Public Technology Inc., has been named associate director for resource management and administration, and Lee M. Thomas, formerly director of the public safety programs for South Carolina, as associate director for state and local programs and support.
