Fire Strikes Harvard University Residence Hall

On Sunday, February 26, a fire broke out in a residence hall at Harvard University. Initial reports indicated that the cause of the fire is electrical and that damage is estimated to be $150,000. Several students have been displaced by the fire and water damage.

So far this year, three people have been killed, at least nine injured, several critically in campus fires across the nation. In addition, two fraternities have been destroyed, one sorority was damaged and one residence hall was lost for the remainder of the semester, forcing 271 students to find alternative housing. In two incidents, fires in residence halls were controlled by the building’s automatic fire sprinklers and students were allowed to return to their rooms shortly after the fires.
