There were no injuries reported. The newspaper details that about 100 residents, some described as being in wheelchairs and several with impaired vision, were evacuated. Several of the residents had to be carried out of the building by firefighters.

The apartment complex’s sprinkler system contained the fire until firefighters were able to extinguish it.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but the newspaper reports that it is believed to have started in the apartment’s kitchen.
