Estes Valley (CO) Fire Protection District Selects Lasky as Fire Chief

Rick Lasky, well-known author for Fire Engineering and longtime FDIC International instructor, has accepted the position of fire chief for the Estes Valley Fire Protection District.

Lasky will be moving to the area with an anticipated start date in mid to late March, according to a release from the department.

“It’s an incredible honor to serve as the next fire chief for the Estes Valley Fire Protection District,” Lasky said. “A fire department filled with those who have a passion to serve and who take tremendous pride in doing so. The Board of Directors, the Staff, and an absolutely incredible group of dedicated volunteer firefighters make for the perfect team. The moment you arrive there’s a sense and a feeling of community and one that places a priority on family. This is where we want to be!”

Lasky, a 40-plus-year veteran of the fire service, is currenting an officer with the West Wichita (TX) Fire Department and served as the chief of the Lewisville (TX) Fire Department for 11 years. Prior to that, he was chief in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. During his time serving as a firefighter in the Chicagoland area, he received the International Society of Fire Service Instructors (ISFSI) Innovator of the Year award for his work developing the “Saving Our Own” program.

He is a longstanding member of the Fire Engineering and FDIC International advisory board, and authored the best-selling books Pride & Ownership: The Love for the Job and Five-Alarm Leadership: From the Firehouse to the Fireground. He also co-hosts “The Command Post” podcast with Chief John Salka, as well as the “Old School” podcast.
