DHS Announces The Fourteenth Round Of Fire Prevention And Safety Grants

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security recently announced the fourteenth round of the Fiscal Year 2005 Fire Prevention and Safety Grant Program (FP&S) awarding six grants to fire departments throughout the United States.

FP&S will issue approximately 400 awards worth at least $32.5 million. The program prioritizes projects focusing on preventing fire-related injuries to children. Many of these awards represent innovative solutions for the delivery of fire prevention activities throughout the United States. In addition to these priorities, FP&S grants support research focusing on ways to improve the safety and health of firefighters.

This fourteenth round of grant awards provides $685,221 to support fire prevention and safety efforts that focus on the safety of high-risk target groups, such as children, seniors, and firefighters. The organizations receiving awards in this round include:

  • Arcata Fire Protection District – Arcata, California, $49,716
  • City of Fort Dodge Fire Department – Fort Dodge, Iowa, $24,925
  • Three Rivers RC&D Council – Pocatello, Idaho, $49,350
  • Grand Rapids Fire Department – Grand Rapids, Michigan, $34,330
  • City of Garfield Fire Department – Garfield, New Jersey, $30,565
  • FIRE 20/20 – Bremerton, Washington, $496,335

The Fire Prevention and Safety Grant Program is administered by the Department’s Office of Grants and Training (G&T) in cooperation with the United States Fire Administration.
