Detroit firefighters respond to a fire in a vacant commercial building.

On Sunday, December 27, 2015, Detroit (MI) 9th Battalion companies responded to a reported commercial building fire at Sterritt & Hurlbut.

Engine 46 arrived on the scene and reported a working fire in a vacant commercial building. They requested a extra company on the box assignment. Chief 9 arrived on the scene and reported a fire in a vacant commercial building, 150 x 200. Chief 9 set up incident command and ordered defensive operations on this structure.

Companies operated in defensive mode for approximately two hours to bring this fire under control with several handlines and one aerial master stream.
