August 11, 2006 – Delaware, a longtime champion of NFPA 1, Uniform Fire Code(tm) (UFC), has adopted it for the first time statewide. The latest editions of several other codes and standards including, NFPA 70, National Electrical Code(r) and NFPA 101(r), Life Safety Code(r) have also been adopted by Delaware.
NFPA 1 is widely used across the United States and as a result of its most recent adoption the residents of Delaware and their property will be protected effective today. NFPA 1 provides requirements necessary to establish a reasonable level of fire safety and property protection from hazards created by fire and explosion.
Delaware code officials participated in a training program developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) that is offered to states that have adopted NFPA 1 and other key NFPA codes and standards. Training provided by NFPA technical experts covers code requirements and the numerous ways the codes may be implemented and enforced.
“NFPA codes and standards have been used in Delaware for years – our code officials and members of the fire service have benefited from the training and services provided by NFPA. We have always supported NFPA 1 and it is wonderful that we have now officially adopted it and taken this step in making the people of Delaware safer,” said Delaware State Fire Marshal, Willard F. Preston, III.
