>> LIBERTY MUTUAL INSURANCE honored Firefighters Michael Cosgrove of Selden, New York, and Michael McLeieer of Merrimac, Massachusetts, with its 2013 Firemark Awards for Heroism and Community Service and Public Education, respectively. Cosgrove suffered second- and third-degree burns after rescuing an unconscious man from a burning building and then lost his home this past March after it suffered extreme damages from a fire. McLeieer has been a volunteer firefighter since 2000 and is committed to educating his community and the nation on fire safety. He established the nonprofit charitable organization E.S.C.A.P.E., which informs citizens about fire prevention, CPR, and first aid. Each winner’s local fire department receives a $10,000 grant in the winner’s honor. www.libertymutual.com.

>> AVON PROTECTION SYSTEMS named the North Clay (IL) Fire Protection District (NCFPD) winner of its $10,000 Firehouse Remodel Sweepstakes. The NCFPD is almost 40 years old and home to 55 volunteer firefighters. The district’s house is in its original condition with the exception of a few minor renovations. The money will fund a slew of projects, from a new HVAC system and remodeled kitchen to a flat-screen television. The firefighters will complete the renovations themselves to help save on labor costs. www.avon-protection.com.
