The Suburban Fire Protection District, Kearny, Nebraska, uses this WEIS FIRE & SAFETY quick attack as a multipurpose unit for wildland and brush response and motor vehicle accidents, says Captain John Sydow. The department protects a city, suburban, and rural area.

Features/Equipment:

  • FORD F-350XL 4 × 4 chassis with extended cab with three seats and 186-inch wheelbase;
  • FORD 6.4L Power Stroke 325-hp diesel engine with automatic transmission;
  • Quick Attack 300 CAFS package;
  • DARLEY 1½-AGE single-stage, 150-gpm pump with BRIGGS & STRATTON/DAIHATSU 34-hp engine and pump-and–roll capability, one 1½-inch preconnect, one-inch booster reel, and TFT Tornado bumper turret;
  • ODIN 60-cfm CAFS;
  • UPF 300-gallon water and 10-gallon foam tanks;
  • RAMSEY 4½-ton portable winch with front and rear receivers;
  • COX air reel;
  • HURST Omni and battery-operated tool; and
  • two FRC telescoping floodlights.

Hillsborough Township (NJ) Fire Department, Fire Company 3, designed this E-ONE quint to respond as a second-due pumper and to have ladder capability, explains Chief Engineer Ed Kovach. It is the fire company’s first aerial piece.

Features/Equipment:

  • Cyclone II chassis with 210-inch wheelbase and six-seat cab with storage for two spare SCBA cylinders under jump seat;
  • CUMMINS ISM 450-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 4000 EVS-P automatic transmission;
  • HALE Qmax single-stage, 2,000-gpm pump with five-inch front intake, AKRON foam educator, 1¾-inch front bumper line, and three crosslays (two 1¾-inch; one 2½-inch);
  • E-ONE 500-gallon water and 30-gallon foam tanks;
  • HP 75-foot aerial ladder with 550-pound tip load, 16-foot outrigger spread, and AKRON StreamMaster ladderpipe;
  • ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors and four wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
  • ON SPOT tire chains; and
  • light and power with ONAN 10-kw hydraulic generator, five FRC floodlights (one each on brow and aerial tip and two at rear of cab), and two HAVIS SHIELDS COLLINS spot/floodlights (aerial tip and base).

The Millstadt (IL) Fire Protection District protects the city and surrounding rural area. Chief Kurt Pellmann says this ALEXIS rescue pumper replaced a rescue truck and is first-due to vehicle fires and CO alarms and second-due to structure fires. Because of growing home development, the district needed additional pumping capacity.

  • HME 1871-W MFDXL chassis with 181-inch wheelbase, six-seat cab with 12-inch raised roof and hydraulic reel, and preconnected extrication tool in front bumper;
  • CUMMINS ISC 330-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 3000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • HALE PSD single-stage, 1,250-gpm pump with rear panel, HYPRO Foam Pro 2002 system, 1¾-inch front bumper line, and three preconnects (two 1¾-inch; one 2½-inch);
  • UPF 750-gallon water and 30-gallon foam tanks;
  • FIREMAN’S FRIEND rear 2½-inch tank fill;
  • ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors and two wheel well compartments for six spare SCBA cylinders;
  • RAMSEY four-ton portable winch with left and right side receivers and front and rear REESE hitches;
  • ZICO rear top access ladder and right side hydraulic ladder rack;
  • left side 200-pound capacity oil absorbent hopper with two pullout boards;
  • AMKUS rescue tools;
  • backboard and Stokes storage in transverse compartment;
  • right side hydraulic reel;
  • NORCOLD refrigerator;
  • FIRST ALERT AED; and
  • light and power with ONAN 15-kw hydraulic generator, WILL BURT Night Scan, seven FRC floodlights (one brow, two tripod, and four recessed scene on body), and two AKRON electric cord reels.
