3 States Awarded Grants For Fire Education Programs

3 States Awarded Grants For Fire Education Programs

Three states—Delaware, Illinois and Oregon—have been awarded grants of $15,000 each from the National Fire Prevention and Control Administration for pilot programs establishing statewide resource systems for public fire education programs.

The state agencies or organizations which received the grants are the Delaware Fire School, the Illinois Fire Inspectors Association and the Oregon Fire Standards and Accreditation Board.

One or more fire education resource centers per state will be established, using the grant funds. The centers will distribute tested public fire education programs and materials, which are targeted to community fire problems, to local fire educators. State fire education specialists will receive information on existing programs and resources within the states from the centers. In addition, the resource centers will provide the local fire educators with information and technical assistance to help them implement and evaluate public education programs.

State resource system development is envisioned as a three-year process. The assistance funds to the pilot states cover an implementation of the state program.
