Seven firefighters were injured late Friday night after two tanker trucks crashed while responding to a massive warehouse fire in southern Pennsylvania, authorities said.

The collision occurred in Spring Garden Township, just outside York, Pa., just before 11 p.m., the York Daily Record reported, citing dispatch records.

Firefighters with the York New Salem Volunteer Fire Company and the Laurel Fire Company No. 1 of Windsor were headed to a massive fire in York, which was reported just after 6:30 p.m., according to York County 911.

Five firefighters in the York New Salem truck were involved in the “serious” crash, the organization said Saturday morning, adding their injuries ranged from “minor bumps and bruises” to some that were described as “a little more serious.”

The two firefighters staffing the other truck were also injured, Laurel Fire Company Chief David Rittenhouse said in a news release. They were taken to a hospital for evaluation but were discharged by 1 a.m.

The two trucks crashed into each other about a third of a mile from the blaze at 951 Elm St., a warehouse building that’s occupied and used for storage, York Mayor Michael Helfrich said Friday night.

The six-alarm fire was brought under control sometime after midnight, York City Fire Chief William Sleeger told the York Daily Record.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The York City Police Department is asking anyone with video surveillance footage for the area “from shortly before 6:40 p.m. on Friday” to contact authorities.
