Five Firefighters Hurt in NJ Apparatus Crash

Five volunteer firefighters were hospitalized for minor injuries after an apparatus crash in Lumberton, New Jersey.

According to a report on phillyburbs.com (http://bit.ly/vkPGgD), the Lumberton Volunteer Fire Department firefighters were returning from a call to a minor accident when the apparauts veered off the roadway in an attempt to avoid another car traveling in the opposite direction.

The rig went off the road and into a ditch and struck some trees; the vehicle’s roof suffered damage. Few other details were disclosed.

This incident, as well as the earlier report of severe injuries to Utah firefighters in an apparatus rollover, serves as a reminder of the dangers firefighters face while traveling in apparatus–whether responding or returning from calls, or even during training evolutions, as is the case with the Utah incident.
