Louisiana Firefighter Jumps Off Bridge as 18-Wheeler Hits Apparatus

A firefighter in Louisiana was injured after leaping off a bridge to avoid an 18-wheeler that slammed into a fire apparatus, according to a report.

KLFY reported that the unidentified 45-year-old firefighter plummeted more than 20 feet during the incident Thursday evening on I-10 in Lafayette.

According to the report, an 18-wheeler going westbound on I-10 struck a fire truck that was on scene where firefighter were assisting at a previous crash. On impact, a firefighter on the rig jumped off an overpass and landed below the elevated portion of the interstate. He was transported in critical condition.

A Mississippi man has been arrested in connection with the 18-wheeler incident, the report said.
