FREIGHTLINER CORPORATION has selected Cleveland, North Carolina, as the new home of American LaFrance, the custom fire truck manufacturer Freightliner acquired. Engineering, manufacturing, sales, and customer support will be headquartered adjacent to the company`s largest truck manufacturing plant.

The company plans to integrate the Freightliner and American LaFrance products into a single fire and emergency services chassis product line. The company intends to eliminate the distinction between commercial and custom chassis. Specific fire service options that were available only on custom chassis are being introduced on Freightliner`s Business Class series and its FLD/FLB heavy-duty aluminum cab products.

All models will include power train, suspension, electronics, and safety features being developed for the new American LaFrance custom chassis. New product introductions include the FL 112 fire chassis for heavy-duty fire service applications; an aluminum crew cab available on FLD 112 medium-length conventional and FLD 120 long conventional chassis; the Business Class High-Roof extended cab; and the Business Class All-Wheel Drive, available for FL 70 and FL 80 chassis on either 4 ¥ 4 or 6 ¥ 6 models.
