Five Chicago Firefighters, Civilian Seriously Injured in Apparatus Crash

A Saturday afternoon fire apparatus crash in Chicago left six people injured, five of them firefighters, according to news reports.

ABC 7 reported that the accident occurred when a driver tried to navigate an intersection as the apparatus were proceeding through it with lights and sirens on.

The driver of the vehicle, a white Chevy Impala, was hospitalized, along with five firefighters.

The incident marks the second time in two days that firefighters in the U.S. were seriously injured in an apparatus accident. Four firefighters were injured Friday night in an apparatus accident in Newark, Delaware. Additionally, last Tuesday, February 6, 2024, four Fort Worth (TX) firefighters were injured, one critically, in an accident involving a fire truck that rolled over as crews were en route to the scene of a house fire.
