Don’t just gear up. Dräger up!

Dräger recognizes the complexities of today’s fire ground and the multitude of incidents that require firefighters to step into areas of increased risk both short- and long-term. Several Dräger products, when used in combination with one another, provide an unequaled level of safety and protection.

Dräger encompasses the collection of solutions that mitigate some of the dangers confronting firefighters. Some dangers are immediate — fire, smoke, toxic gas, etc. Others cause a long-term harmful effect on first responders — carcinogen particulates, chemicals, cardiovascular insult and damage, etc.

Dräger offers an assortment of solutions that, in combination with each other, could improve safety and health of firefighters while also providing the following benefits:

  • Reduce the introduction of particulates to the soft tissue in airways and on the face.
  • Provides warning to operators and command of potentially deadly gas and heat rises allowing for retreat or increased operational efforts.
  • Provide vital training in a controlled environment to prepare responders for the multitude of circumstances that could occur.
  • Assist special operations teams while conducting high-risk, high-impact, low-frequency evolutions.
  • Substantially improve the safety and health of firefighters and other first responders.

As the inventor of the modern-day self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) for firefighters, the culmination of almost 80 years of innovation resulted in the 2018 Edition of the NFPA-certified SCBA, the Dräger PSS 7000. Remarkable features of the PSS 7000 include the following:

  • The carrying system makes the use of the SCBA easier on the wearer with ergonomic comfort that includes height-adjustment, pivoting at the waist, and more easy adjustments for every size or shape of firefighter. The supportive waist belt includes a floating action to keep the SCBA at a lower center of gravity as the Firefighter moves, twists, reaches, and other actions, meaning less stress on the wearer.
  • The Dräger FPS 7000 full-face mask provides 180-degree, panoramic visibility with the large distortion-free polycarbonate visor. To accommodate faces of different shapes and sizes, the FPS 7000 is available nine custom sizes.
  • An all-in-one distress signal unit and pressure gauge, the Dräger Sentinel 7000 is an electronic unit that provides continuous monitoring of operational status of the SCBA. All information is brought together clearly and rapidly on one easy-to-read digital display.
  • The 2018 Edition of NFPA 1981 requires an update to the lung-demand valve. The new version incorporates two independent buttons on each side. The firefighter must press both large buttons at the same time to release the LDV from the mask. If a wearer presses one or the other button, the LDV remains locked in place. The connection between the mask and LDV is non-indexing, meaning the LDV can be inserted at any angle. Once locked in place, the LDV and the connecting hose can be turned 360 degrees.
  • The Dräger FPS 7000 Head-Up Display connects wirelessly and automatically to an SCBA without any manual action by the wearer. Red, amber and green LED lights provide feedback just on the periphery of view and flash at regular intervals to keep the wearer updated on cylinders air pressure. The display automatically adapts, making sure the LED lights are brighter or muted based on the ambient lightness or darkness.

Beyond the SCBA, Dräger offers remarkable choices in portable gas detection for use in every area of the fire ground. From the robust seven-gas X-am 8000 with an extendable probe for checking areas to the compact Pac 6000 CO monitor that constantly checks for carbon monoxide, Dräger offers a complete range. For more specialized detection like hazardous materials scenes, Dräger tubes remain the standard.

When responding to a fire, the experience and skills learned during training can save lives. Dräger offers comprehensive professional firefighter training and instructional seminars are tailored to the unique needs of both firefighters and technicians, and meet the specific requirements of individual fire departments. Pair the training with the wide selection of equipment meant to fit any budget.

Dräger offers small portables fire training systems with interchangeable props including cars, Christmas trees, gas tanks, barbecue grills, and dumpsters. The Dräger Swede Survival Training Systems provide multiple options — from flashover simulators to multi-story, multi-fire buildings with several evolution options. SCBA confidence mazes along with mobile training systems burning cleaner propane or natural gas is also available and limited only by engineering and your imagination.

For 100 years, firefighters all around the world have trusted Dräger for reliable equipment, services, and training that are fit for purpose and based on real-world experience.

Communicate For Life

Seconds count at every incident. When clear communication happens in real time, without interrupting response activities, help arrives as quickly and safely as possible.

It’s been 30 years since Firecom put its first communication headsets and intercoms into the hands of first responders. Times have certainly changed since then, and while noise is still a concern today, one important factor hasn’t changed—communication between command, crew and dispatch must happen in the most effective way possible to quickly save lives and keep crews safe.

Firecom emerged from the entrepreneurial spirit of founder Brian VanderPloeg. He took his success with avionics headsets and applied it to help firefighters overcome the extremely loud engine and siren noise that interfered with communication between command, crew and dispatch. This significantly improved response times and helped dramatically reduce hearing loss among the firefighter community.

Today, Firecom leads the industry in providing advanced communication technologies to the men and women on the front lines of first response. Through innovation and outstanding customer service, Firecom has built a name for itself in fire and rescue, working closely with departments to develop the products they need to do their jobs.

Firecom is a proud division of Sonetics Corporation; still owned and operated by Brian VanderPloeg and comprised of three divisions: Flightcom, Firecom and Sonetics. The team at Sonetics Corporation spends each day working with customers to uncover new ways to protect individuals and crews through real-time communication and hearing protection. Our ultimate goal: make every day safer, more productive, less stressed and more enjoyable.

You don’t earn the privilege of trust that Firecom has achieved in support of first responders without listening. Using customer feedback, we advance technology and innovation to set new standards for rugged, mission-critical wireless systems that improve first responder safety and effectiveness.

We know what matters to you—being able to reach an expert when you pick up the phone, quick turnaround on repairs, and getting the support you need when you need it.

Communication isn’t just what we do; it’s who we are. Tell us what you need. We’re all ears.

Driving Innovation

Holmatro has been engineering, manufacturing, and testing high-performance Holmatro Rescue Tools from its Glen Burnie, Maryland plant location since 1988. From the machining process to the laser-controlled precision work, Holmatro’s manufacturing production process delivers the utmost care to detail.

Holmatro is dedicated to fostering innovation by shadowing end-users on actual job sites and in their workshops to see how and why tools are used, misused or neglected — to identify gaps and frustrations where refinements and new tools would come in handy. Since its inception, Holmatro has released a steady stream of breakthrough products and the pipeline is full of more. These range from new lines of tools to compact, lightweight tools that reset the standards of quality and utility in the industry.

EVO 3 Cordless Rescue Tools

Holmatro’s next generation in battery tools delivers unmatched performance at a higher speed, with no compromise to tool performance. Its unique design improves ease of use, which allows Emergency professionals the ability to deploy our tools safely, quickly and efficiently. Centrally placed at the back of the tool, the control handle is always within reach, while the battery, located on top of the tool, is accessible and easy to change in the tightest situation.

When it comes to Holmatro Greenline EVO 3 rescue equipment, our highly experienced engineers translate innovative ideas into lighter, more powerful solutions for fire and rescue departments. The result is a full range of high-quality tools that enable rescue professionals to work efficiently under pressure, making it safer, easier and quicker to save lives.

THE FUTURE IS CORDLESS!

Inclined Cutting

The Inclined Cutter is part of Holmatro’s innovative 5th generation cutters. Lighter and more ergonomic than ever, no compromise on performance, and equipped with many user-friendly benefits. Inclined cutting is a completely new, revolutionary cutting technology. Extricating patients under challenging conditions has just become safer, quicker and easier than ever. Equipped with a unique 30 degree angled jaw, the new Holmatro Inclined Cutter improves user comfort and maximizes working space.

The Inclined Cutter offers 30 degrees more working space between the tool and the car and leaves more room for tool movement, which enhances patient safety and eliminates the need for repeated cutter repositioning. And, the inclined cutter eliminates the need to lift the tool above your head or to bend over severely. It also leaves more space for the tool to move when cutting pillars from the side.

CORE TechnologyTM

Holmatro introduced CORE in 2005 and it remains the innovative standard for rescue equipment, today.

Traditionally, twin-line or dual hose systems worked with two separate hoses: a high-pressure hose to supply hydraulic oil to rescue tools and a low-pressure hose for the oil return to the pump. Holmatro’s CORE system offers one hose, which is a high-pressure hose inside and protected by a low-pressure hose. Being para-aramid fiber reinforced, the CORE hose is lighter than traditional steel reinforced hoses and does not have the risk of kinking or pinholes. It comes with an easy to clean flat-faced coupler at both ends which locks automatically in just one push.

Sponsor- and partnership program

In 1990, Holmatro became the official rescue tool sponsor of premier open wheel racing in the USA. With the innovation and space age construction used in the world of motor sports, it’s critical that safety crews are armed with tools that keep pace with technology.  Our affiliation with motor sports is another reminder of the importance of bringing new solutions to the world of rescue.

American manufacturing

Through a dealer network, Holmatro offers products, training, service and support to customers. Firefighters from all over, rescue teams from FEMA, the U.S Naval Academy, the Army, Air Force and Maryland’s Shock Trauma unit come to Holmatro’s U.S. facility to train with the best in the industry, using the best in rescue tools.

Holmatro is registered to internationally recognized ISO 9001 standards for quality. To learn more or request a tour, please visit www.holmatro.com or call (410) 768-9662. All tours must have a customer, business or employee relation to Holmatro to be accepted.

Petzl America

Equipment for work-at-height and rescue professionals

A family-owned business, Petzl is committed not only to quality and innovation, but also to giving back to the communities that have made it so successful. Petzl has manufactured equipment for the work-at-height and rescue industries for over 25 years.

The development of the MAESTRO®, an intuitive and reliable mechanical belay device, expands Petzl’s rescue solution offerings. The device integrates a unidirectional progress capture pulley with a descender, which greatly maximizes efficiency and limits the amount of equipment and users needed to access and evacuate casualties in vertical or confined space environments. This all-in-one advantage makes the transfer between raising and lowering simple and rapid. A high-efficient pulley on sealed ball bearings provides excellent hauling capability. Similar to the new I’D line, the AUTO-LOCK® system is automatically engaged when the handle is released without requiring any action from the user.

The I’D line of personal descenders was one of Petzl’s first introductions into the rescue and industry. Now, about 20 years later, the I’D is a fundamental piece of equipment worldwide. The I’D line offers three different models, the I’D S®, I’D L® and I’D EVAC®, all three models are a self-braking descent control devices with an anti-panic lowering function. The I’D S was created for work-at-height with a rope compatibility of 10 – 11.5 mm ropes and loads up to about 550 lbs. The I’D L was created for rescue operations, with a rope compatibility of 12.5 – 13 mm ropes and loads up to about 615 lbs. The I’D EVAC was created primarily for lowering from an anchor. The ergonomic handle is oriented for managing a load from the anchor with comfortable descent control. All the I’D models offer the AUTO-LOCK system that allows users to easily position themselves at a station without having to manage the handle or tie off the device.

Petzl also offers lighting solutions for most situations from ultra-compact to high-performance headlamps. The TACTIKKA® line ranges from headlamps with 300 lumens to 450 lumens. All the models offer a red lighting mode and are compatible with the CORE® rechargeable batteries. The PIXA® line ranges from 60 to 100 lumens and all offer multi-beam adaption depending on close-range work, movement or long-range work. Depending on the model, the certifications range from HAZLOC Class I Div 2 and Class II Div 2. The DUO® headlamps are Petzl’s high-performance headlamp line that all offer FACE2FACE®, the anti-glare function that automatically dims the light when two or more beams cross. The line ranges from 360 to 1100 lumens, depending on the model, and provide CONSTANT® lighting technology, which provides stable lighting over time. All Petzl headlamps are compatible with helmets when paired with a mounting accessory.

Pierce Manufacturing:

Deserve Better. Serve Better.

Fire departments deserve fire apparatus manufactured to match the critical needs of firefighters and the communities they serve. At Pierce Manufacturing, team members understand the demands members of the fire service face each day and remain focused on designing and producing the most innovative and unrivaled products in the fire industry. Pierce representatives take their responsibility personally because many have fire service experience themselves, and possess the expertise and drive required to build fire apparatus that exceeds the ever-changing needs of first responders. The company’s dedicated focus on honoring the brave men and women in service centers around four key themes:

You Speak. We Listen.

At the heart of what the experienced workforce at Pierce does day in, and day out, listening to feedback and recommendations from firefighters helps Pierce team members build innovative design features that address the critical needs of fire departments.

You Question. We Answer.

True innovation comes from collaboration. At Pierce, team members work directly with dealers and firefighters to answer their questions. What type of materials are used? How are products made? The team makes a point of educating firefighters about processes and best practices but also takes feedback to help drive new apparatus design and functionality.

You Ask. We Act.

From product improvements to service and maintenance, the requests of firefighters drive action. Pierce representatives take pride in accommodating the needs of firefighters as they provide the highest level of service throughout the lifespan of an apparatus.

You Lead. We Honor.

Building custom fire apparatus involves a deep understanding of the risks and challenges firefighters are faced with on the job. Throughout Pierce’s over 100-year history, team members have made a point of honoring the noble work of firefighters.

As a true single-source supplier and an ISO 9001 certified company, all aspects of Pierce operations meet world-class standards for quality. From the custom chassis to the detail work inside the cab, all Pierce fire trucks are engineered and built to perform when seconds count.

In recent years, Pierce has introduced market-disrupting apparatus that address voice of customer feedback and have set benchmarks for performance in the industry. Specifically, the Pierce Ascendant® Class of aerials feature a weight-optimized design structure that places weight and mass only where required. The Ascendant Class has been expanded to include a single or tandem 107-foot rear axle aerial ladder, a tractor-drawn aerial tiller, a single or tandem rear axle 110-foot aerial platform configuration, and most recently a 100-foot heavy-duty aerial tower.

In addition to the Ascendant Class, the Pierce difference is incorporated into every aerial product, including the 75’ or 100’ aluminum or heavy-duty ladder, and the 100’ aluminum or heavy-duty platform. All Pierce aerials are designed and fabricated by in-house professional engineers and tested and certified by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., the most recognized testing agency in the United States.

Other renowned innovations include:

  • TAK-4® Independent Suspension maintains the feel of the road with outstanding steer-ability and a dramatically smoother ride over any surface.
  • Command Zone advanced electronics which leads the way in bringing automotive-style electrical systems to fire apparatus with numerous benefits including easier servicing, and long-distance troubleshooting.
  • Pierce Ultimate Configuration (PUC) system which eliminates the traditional pump house, is easier to operate, adds compartment space, and enables significantly simplified servicing.
  • The new Pierce Situational Awareness System by Fotokite is an actively tethered aerial device that can be deployed from any apparatus and is retrofittable with apparatus currently in service. With a focus on increased response effectiveness, this tool is the industry’s only aerial situational awareness system that tethers to the fire apparatus and hard-wires into the vehicle system – so there’s no need for a piloting license or certificate of authorization, and no battery life limitations to work around.

Twenty-six dealerships strong, Pierce’s dealer network covers all of North America and maintains one million total square feet of service center space. Aftermarket service specialists have recently introduced expanded product support capabilities and enhanced rapid proprietary parts delivery services. With a team that leads the fight when it comes to advancing the fire industry, it’s no surprise that firefighters rely on the Pierce brand more than any other for their fire apparatus needs.

The new TITAN® series has a striking aggressive stance with innovative styling features and offers industry leading performance in several key measurable categories such as acceleration, braking, dynamic stability and pumping performance.

E-ONE’S SUPERIOR AERIAL DNA

The DNA of E-ONE aerials consist of a unique design that gives E-ONE the advantage of stability and brute strength. Key design features include a 2.5 to 1 structural safety factor, crisscross under-slung jacks, integral torque box chassis, and the strongest cab in the industry.

25 PERCENT STRONGER

E-ONE designs are strong. In fact, E-ONE is 25 percent stronger than minimum NFPA 1901 requirements. All aerial products, including the aluminum and steel aerials, have a 2.5 to 1 structural safety factor. The NFPA minimum requirement is a 2 to 1 structural safety factor. E-ONE exceeds this minimum requirement by providing 2.5 to 1, which is 25 percent stronger, contributing to the E-ONE safety record for over 40 years.

SAFEST CAB IN THE INDUSTRY

Keep your crew safe with the cab that withstands over 5 times the static roof load and over twice the frontal impact required by NFPA 1901. The structural cage design provides maximum protection and comfort for firefighters.

UNMATCHED AERIAL STABILITY

Rock solid stability is felt with E-ONE from the core. Even when tested to one and a half times the rated load over the front, with tires off the ground, you can have confidence in E-ONE’s stability. E-ONE has engineered and built more than 2,500 aerials for customers around the world.

NARROW JACK DEPLOYMENT

When time is vital and space is limited, the crisscross, under-slung outriggers deploy to a 15’6″ spread in under 45 seconds on the HPS 100 Steel Platform and a 12′ spread in under 40 seconds on the HPS 105 ladder. As we say at E-ONE, “If you can open the doors, you can set the jacks.”

INTEGRAL TORQUE BOX CHASSIS

The integral torque box chassis is a unique design that provides a solid foundation and low center of gravity for the truck. This provides outstanding stability and strength, with the same 2.5 to 1 structural safety factor as the aerial device.

RESPONSIVE TO CUSTOMERS

Customer feedback is important at E-ONE. As a manufacturer of customized fire apparatus, we depend on our customers to help us build better, smarter and stronger. That’s how the innovative E-ONE Hush Series (HS) was born. Responding to customer demands for a quieter cab to enhance communication and a larger cab to transport more firefighters, E-ONE created the HS. With its engine at the rear, the HS is like no other fire truck, providing enhanced communication, more room for personnel and greater storage capabilities for contaminated bunker gear.

At TSI, our global team strives to provide not only instruments but also innovative solutions. We operate at both a global scale and a human scale—instruments that measure everything from atmospheric aerosols to the fit of a personal respirator. Turning data into actionable information enables our customers to do their jobs more efficiently. TSI understands the science, the data, and the processes that support your work.

Headquartered in Minnesota, TSI has a global network with sales, service, and support locations in the UK, Singapore, China, India, and Germany. Wherever you are, we are there to support you. Since 1961, we’ve set the standards for precision instrumentation and software solutions. Every day, our dedicated employees turn research into reality.

The reality for our customers is that they are exposed to respiratory hazards every day. To ensure safety and health, fire departments have respiratory protection programs in place that include fit testing for face masks. TSI’s PortaCount Respirator Fit Testers® deliver safety by utilizing the most effective quantitative fit testing method available to identify poor-fitting masks. PortaCount instruments simplify fit testing with one consistent and objective testing experience across any respirator type.

The PortaCount Respirator Fit Tester evaluates respirator fit during movement, breathing and talking. This data provides an accurate reflection of how a respirator will protect staff on the job. Measuring your staff’s respirator fit during action increases safety and provides mask wearers with confidence that their respirator will provide real-world protection.

By improving staff training and mask selection, users begin fit tests with respirators shown to fit and staff who know how to don and wear them. Better training increases your percentage of passed fit tests, improving safety, and saving time.

With the release of OSHA’s modified CNC protocols, PortaCount instruments are now able to complete a fit test in less than 2 ½ minutes. Now the best respirator fit tester is now also the fastest.

The Binder Lift helps you safely lift any size patient with ease, so you can get back to rest of your shift pain free.

It’s safe to assume most firefighters don’t become a firefighter because of their childhood dream of lifting a patient out of a bathtub or other confined space. But nonetheless, this is a routine task for most first responders and firefighters. Not only is this job function difficult, it is also the most injury-prone task a prehospital provider will perform on a typical shift. The Binder Lift changes this by attaching up to 25 handles to the patient’s torso, so providers can lift patients easily and safely. It is impossible for crews to effectively team lift with proper ergonomics when following outdated and improvised lifting techniques involving a sheet, blanket, or transfer-tarp. When lifting with the Binder Lift crews can avoid lifting related injuries and have longer healthier careers.

The Binder Lift is available in two sizes, Standard and Bariatric, that will fit patients ranging from 80lbs to 800lbs. The Vinyl model is completely impervious, so cleaning simply requires a quick spray and wipe with disinfectant. All Binder Lift products are handmade in the USA and warrantied with a firefighter proof warranty for 5 years. If anything happens to it for any reason we will repair or replace it free of charge. We’ve already helped thousands of providers who were struggling to safely lift patients, and we’d love to help your department as well. Trying the Binder Lift is simple and free. Simply contact us and ask to participate in our FREE 30-day field trial so you can experience how the Binder Lift can help you lift and assist patients with ease. After the field trial we’ll even give you a return shipping label, so it won’t cost you a dime. Call or email us today. www.binderlift.com.

The year was 1938 and under the original name of Boston Novelty Company we made leather tags, name plates, cases, bags, etc. In the early 1940s the name changed to Boston Leather and the focus turned to law enforcement.

We have expanded into other areas but always with an accentuation on the public service market. We have broadened our fire-related line and have introduced police K-9 items. We have the ability to manufacture custom leather Products, but our bread and butter is the “Uniformed Professional.”

Leather remains the material of choice. It is the best material for the items that we manufacture. When worn or carried leather becomes a part of you. It is comfortable, long lasting, very strong, and good looking.

All items sold by us are made in our plant in Sterling, Illinois. All leather used is full grain from U.S. steers. All leather is tanned in the U.S.A. We manufacture a quality item and stand behind it fully. You will not buy a better Product anywhere.

We have chosen to market our Products through dealers only. We feel they can service your total needs on a local basis. A list of dealers by state is located on our site. However, if there are any questions about our Products do not hesitate to contact us. We will give you the information to make an informed decision.

Audio/CAD Dispatch to Phones

eDispatches was launched in 2004 with the mission of providing value driven secondary notification services to the emergency responder community. eDispatches prides ourselves in employing customer focused staff to assist you when necessary, free of charge.

Many two-tone paging systems used by emergency responders experience limitations due to range or topography of their coverage area. eDispatches is able to capture your dispatch audio and deliver it to both cell phones or landlines using a variety of delivery options. We offer a variety of alerting methods to cover all styles of phones.

eDispatches sends your audio dispatch, dispatcher CAD information as well as personnel response and availability data to your wireless device for a low cost subscription. Nearly all services do not require dispatchers to perform any added steps to their normal operation. In almost all cases, you need not even notify your dispatch center you are using our system.

Our mobile apps offer the most robust experience and include many features. These apps allow your phone to operate similar to a voice pager with repeat and streaming audio. Also included is the ability to identify you are available or not prior to calls coming in and your response status once you have been dispatched for all members to view in app or on monitors. For people who embrace a more basic form of technology, we have direct phone call and/or text messaging. Regardless of the device you use, eDispatches can work for you.

Our mass messaging component is included with all plans and allows users the ability to send their own messages to the department.

eDispatches built a vast network for reliability and fail-over redundancy monitored 24 hours per day with technical support available to individual clients Monday-Friday. eDispatches provides reliable services to hundreds of thousands of recipients under no-contract. A minimum 30-day trial for all new accounts and necessary equipment free of charge. Our staffed US-based technical support department is available to offer assistance as needed. The RollNRack Hose Management System

A hose related back injury led firefighter Javier Fernandez to design and patent a tool that would prevent back injuries for all firefighters. Since back injuries are the number one cause of early duty disability retirement across the US, his goal was to exceed NFPA safety standards throughout the process and eliminate the potential for injuries during hose management. This system prevents loading hose while riding precariously on top of moving apparatus. This dangerous and antiquated practice has led to injuries and deaths. “The goal was to improve a firefighter’s quality of life by working smarter, more efficiently and being as safe as possible. Heavy rolls of LDH are rocked into or out of the units and loaded onto stationary rigs with minimal firefighters. No one rides on moving apparatus to load hose, ever.” Fernandez states.

The RollNRack was introduced in 2003, an LDH drain attachment in 2004. In 2007, the Power Roller, the industry’s only battery-operated LDH roller was introduced. It drains & rolls a 100’ length of LDH in under thirty seconds! The System can handle up to 7 ¼” hose. Loading hose off any unit is accomplished with two or three firefighters. The Efficiency Package saves budget dollars and cuts scene time in half. This allows a department to respond to other calls. In 2011, the FASTBACK, a manual roller for hand lines was introduced. In 2012, the GO-Pack, a collapsing, stowable ‘Rack and LDH drainer were added. All components of the RollNRack System are innovative, patented and designed for durability and ease of use. RollNRack Tools are made of aluminum and stainless steel. The customizable system is portable and fully independent of the apparatus.

With shrinking budgets, higher workman’s comp insurance, an aging work force, the current shortages in the volunteer ranks and expanding coverage, the RollNRack system makes a difference. Videos show how they can help any department. “It’s the safest system on the market and has streamlined hose management for volunteer, career, industrial and military firefighters all over the world.” The RollNRack System is MADE IN THE USA and demonstrated at all shows attended.

Dedicated to saving lives throughout the world

Skedco was founded in 1981 by Bud and Catherine Calkin for the purpose of manufacturing the SKED® stretcher. Skedco immediately targeted the Military and Fire Service as the obvious market. They very quickly found that cavers, industry and wilderness rescue teams needed the Sked too.

By 1984 Skedco produced the Oregon Spine Splint. It was necessary to create their own immobilizer as the only other one was produced by a competitor. It was added to the Sked System. Shortly after the OSS came a flotation kit. It makes the SKED® float nearly vertically and will “self right” when capsized. The complete system fits into one backpack that doubles as a towing harness when it is necessary to drag the SKED® in a hands free mode. Later, they developed the inflatable floats which made the system even smaller for storage and transport. The complete system was then standardized by the military but it still wasn’t understood by the end users.

When “Operation Just Cause” occurred and the U.S military invaded Panama to capture Manuel Norriega the Army purchased a very good number of SKED® systems. SKED® performed very well during that operation. Lives and at least one spinal cord were saved.

The U.S. Army Rangers were the first to use the SKED® to haul equipment. They would drag mortars, mortar rounds, ammunition, many other critical items and sometimes a patient faster and easier than carrying them.

In the early 1990’s OSHA mandated that industry be able to respond and affect a confined space rescue in a very short time. SKED® was the natural choice for confined spaces as it will bring victims through smaller, more confined areas than any other stretcher, even when the patient is immobilized.

The Fire Service also began using the Sked a lot more frequently. They saved lives using the SKED® when no other stretcher would work.

SKEDCO now produces over 200 products some of which are SKED® Stretcher, Oregon Spine Splint, Sked-Evac Tripod, SKEDCO Rescue Hauler and SKEDCO Microhauler 4:1 mechanical advantage rescue pulley systems, HALF SKED, SKEDCO Window Escape Anchor, Hazmat SKED Stretcher systems and a wide array of Military rescue and emergency medical products. The company and its’ employees remain dedicated to saving lives throughout the world.

Skedco wishes to thank all of those brave men and women who are risking their own safety to save others. They are truly the world’s greatest treasure.

On top of that we also have our multi-truck service team, custom graphics department, in-house embroidery capabilities, and the best group of employees a company could hope to have.

When our Co-Founder and Chairman Jim Witmer founded Witmer Public Safety Group, he did it because of his passion. Having been a firefighter for many years, and currently Chief Emeritus, his passion for firefighting, community, and making the world a better place has guided our company in our decision making processes. No matter how much we grow, a large percentage of our staff will always be active or retired firefighters as well as law enforcement agency members, EMTs and Paramedics. That’s how we operate…and it’s how we live. We’re colleagues. We’re family. We understand your needs. We know our products. And we’ll never compromise on quality. As always, we’re prepared to meet or exceed your high expectations in every way.

Our motto is Equipping Protectors with Passion™, and we continue to uphold this promise by providing the industry’s best equipment and supplies to the individuals who serve to ensure the public’s safety. For more information, please call (800) 852-6088 or visit TheFireStore.com.
