City of Boston, MA, and Maintenance Shops Sued for Apparatus Crash That Killed Firefighter

The city of Boston, Massachusetts, and six truck maintenance shops have been sued for their alleged roles in a fire apparatus crash that killed Boston (MA) Fire Lieutenant Kevin M. Kelley two years ago, according to the Boston Globe.

The suit claims the city and shops were negligent in maintaining the vehicle’s brakes, which lead to the crash. A Boston (MA) Fire Department internal inquiry also blamed inadequate maintenance on the brake failure.

The suit was filed by the insurance company that had insured a housing complex that was also damaged in the incident.

This is the second civil suit filed in connection to the crash. In November, Kelley’s family filed a wrongful death suit against the maintenance shops, although the suit did not name the city of Boston.
