APPARATUS DELIVERIES: The Valhalla, NY Fire Department uses its AMERICAN LaFRANCE utility truck

The Valhalla (NY) Fire Department uses its AMERICAN LaFRANCE utility truck to transport its FAST, which also covers neighboring towns, explains Commissioner Ken Hoff-darth. It is also used for fireground support and as a backup rescue truck.

The Northport (AL) Fire Department uses its FERRARA pumper as a first-out unit for fires and medical response, explains Chief Daryl Patterson. The top-mount pump panel offers safety and added visibility for the pump operator.

The Penn Township Fire Department in Cassopolis, Michigan, designed this SPENCER pumper for general firefighting and response to vehicle accidents, according to Chief Jim Bogue. The larger water tank allows a stronger initial attack and the top-mount pump panel allows better operator visibility.

The Avon (MA) Fire Departmentdesigned its SMEAL quint so it can establish it own water supply when there is a limited response, according to Chief Kevin Partridge. The quint also responds to motor vehicle accidents and rescue calls.

The Miami-Dade County (FL) Fire Rescue Department designed this METALCRAFT MARINE fireboat to protect a jurisdiction that includes numerous container terminals, industrial properties, and one of the largest passenger cruise ports, explains Captain Carlos Gimenez.

  • Firestorm 50 model (50-foot, five-inch length), powered by two CATERPILLAR C-18 diesel engines (873 hp at 2,200 rpm),

The East Wise County Fire Rescue in Rhome, Texas, uses this ROSENBAUER apparatus as an engine or a tanker, depending on circumstances, explains Lieutenant Robert “Sonny” Brown, since the district has only three hydrants. The top-mount pump panel affords more operator visibility.

The Honolulu (HI) Fire Department designed its two SVI TRUCKS search and rescue units with increased storage space and number of compartments while maintaining the same size vehicles as the older ones, according to Captain Kenison Tejada, PIO. The trucks have short wheelbases for maneuverability on streets in remote areas.

The Garwood (NJ) Fire Department designed its PIERCE as a rescue pumper, replacing a standard pumper and a converted ambulance used as a rescue truck, according to former Chief Richard Bonfanti. It responds first-due to vehicle fires, hazmat spills, and mutual-aid calls.

The Couer d’Alene (ID) Fire Department designed this BOISE MOBILE EQUIPMENT truck as a regional rescue, USAR, and hazmat unit, compatible with the Boise-based State USAR (SUSAR). Chief Kenny Gabriel says the department wanted to keep most of the equipment portable while allowing for maximum flexibility.
