APPARATUS DELIVERIES

The Union Colony Fire Rescue, Greeley, Colorado, uses this SVI TRUCKS unit to answer heavy and technical rescue calls and to operate as a second truck company at structure fires, says Firefighter/EMT-I Christopher Mirowski.

Features/Equipment:

• SPARTAN Gladiator Evolution LFD chassis with 31-inch Extreme Duty Bumper, 215-inch wheelbase, and 10-inch raised roof cab with medical cabinet and four seats;
• CUMMINS ISM 400-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 4000 EVS-PR automatic transmission;
• 20-foot nonwalk-in body with ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors and 150-pound oil absorbent hopper with rooftop fill;
• nine anchor/tie-off points at fenders and roof;
• TNT rescue tools in front bumper and power unit on roof of body;
• dedicated ergonomically designed roll-out tray with RES-Q-JACK stabilizing struts (first in the country, inset);
• access ladder for rooftop compartments;
• rear compartment storage for Stokes basket, lumber, and 100 feet of ground ladders;
• rack for 24 spare SCBA cylinders;
• WARN six-ton front-mounted winch;
• ZOLL AED; and
• light and power with ONAN 30-kw pto generator, SVI Command Light, eight FRC floodlights (two brow, six scene), six WHELEN scene lights, and two HANNAY electric cord reels.

The Savoy (MA) Volunteer Fire Department has two SMEAL FIRE APPARATUS vehicles. Chief Lawrence Ordyna says the town is in a remote location and ambulance response times can be slower than normal. Therefore, the rescue pumper responds to medical calls as well as fire calls. The pumper/tanker is used as an attack truck because there are no hydrants.

• eight wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
• ON SPOT tire chains;
• MEDTRONIC AED; and
• two FRC telescoping floodlights behind cab and six FEDERAL scene lights on body.

• INTERNATIONAL 7500 chassis with 216-inch wheelbase and two-seat cab;
• INTERNATIONAL 7500 Max Force, 360-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 3000 EVS automatic transmission;
• WATEROUS CS single-stage, 1,250-gpm pump with HYPRO Foam Pro 1500 system, 1¾-inch front bumper line, 1¾-inch HANNAY hose reel, and AKRON Apollo monitor;
• UPF 2,000-gallon water and 40-gallon foam tanks;
• four-inch rear direct tank fill and 10-inch NEWTON rear dump valves;
• 2,100 gallon FOL-DA-TANK on SMEAL fold-down rack;
• three transverse compartments for spine boards;
• four wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders; and
• two FRC midship mounted floodlights and two FEDERAL scene lights on sides of body.
