The Milwaukee (WI) Fire Department ordered this METALCRAFT MARINEboat with a higher pump capacity than the previous boat partly because of its city’s and shoreline’s gentrification and development, explained Chief Darrell K. Moore. The boat can also nose up to a vessel more easily for fire and EMS purposes. It is manned by land companies that include a marine pilot.


Features/Equipment:

  • Firestorm 36 Model with a 39-foot, two-inch overall length; 13-foot beam; and 36-inch draft;
  • two CUMMINS QSC 540-hp diesel engines with HAMILTON HJ322 jets;
  • two DARLEY PSM single-stage, 1,750-gpm pumps (pumps up to 4,383 gpm) with DARLEY foam system, 75-gallon foam tank, five-inch discharge, two 2½-inch discharges, and five AKRON monitors (two DeckMaster bow monitors, one StreamMaster roof monitor, and two Apollo Hi-Risers aft);
  • push knee at bow diving platform aft 500-pound davit;
  • MARINE SONICthermal vision side scan sonar system technology;
  • NIGHT VISION TECHNOLOGIES infrared camera;
  • central oxygen and suction systems outfitted for ALS;
  • EMS bench in cabin. Cabin has three windows which open up for passage of a stretcher for patient transfer to the bench from the deck.

The Powdersville Fire Department in Piedmont, South Carolina, protects a 50 percent rural/50 percent suburban area. Chief Jonathan “JT” Tingen says this E-ONE quint serves as a multiuse apparatus with full rescue capability.

  • 75-foot aerial ladder with 500-pound tip load, 16-foot outrigger spread, and AKRON StreamMaster ladderpipe;
  • PHOENIX rescue tool in front bumper compartment;
  • MSA 5200 thermal imaging camera;
  • three HANNAY reels (two electric cord, one air); and
  • light and power with ONAN 15-kw hydraulic generator, seven HAVIS SHIELDS COLLINS floodlights (two on brow, two at rear of cab, two on aerial tip, and one at rear of body), and two FEDERAL scene lights (one on each side of cab).

The Fairbanks (AK) Fire Departmentdesigned this AMERICAN LaFRANCE platform quint to deal with extreme temperatures (-50°F to 90°F) and with extra lighting for long periods of darkness, explains Captain Brian Davis. The unit also responds to structure fires and special rescues as needed.

  • Eagle chassis with 263-inch wheelbase and 14-inch raised roof cab with four seats;
  • CATERPILLAR C13 525-hp diesel engine (with vertical exhaust to provide heat inside pump compartment);
  • ALLISON 4000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • WATEROUS CMU two-stage 2,000-gpm pump with four crosslays (two each 1½- and 1¾-inch off of two-inch piping), enclosed, insulated pump compartment, compartment heater, heat tap in essential wires, and pressure tubes for governor;
  • UPF 300-gallon water tank with hydraulic heater;
  • 100-foot platform with 1,000-pound payload capacity, two ELKHART Scorpion monitors (one electric, one manual), and an 18-foot outrigger spread;
  • 12-volt heat tape on all multiplex display terminal switches controlling hydraulic fluid flow to platform leveling system;
  • ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors, seven wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders, and a five-cylinder rack in rear compartment;
  • 171 feet of ground ladders;
  • ALS airway and trauma kits; and
  • light and power with HARRISON 10-kw PTO generator, four FRC portable floodlights mounted midship and five on platform (two each behind and on bottom and one at front), four HAVIS SHIELDS COLLINS spot/floodlights (two at front of platform, two at bed section of aerial), eight WHELEN scene lights (two on cab, and two on rear, and four on body), and two HANNAY electric cord reels.
