The Sandhills Fire Department in Hyannis, Nebraska, designed this FORT GARRY INDUSTRIES pumper primarily to fight fast-moving wildland grass fires, explains Chief Marshall Garner. The district occupies 1,170 square miles of rough range, grass-covered sand hills, and wetland meadows; there are few paved roads, and there is deep snow in winter. Since two of the three towns covered have no water supply, a larger water tank and CAFS were specified.

The United States Navy has placed in service eight CRASH RESCUE EQUIPMENT SERVICES airport quick-attack units, distributed to Florida Naval Air Stations in Jacksonville and in Milton (Whiting Field), and to the Naval District of Washington DC.
