APPARATUS DELIVERIES

The Washington Fire Company Community Ambulance Association in Ashland, Pennsylvania, uses this MARION rescue truck for rescues, fireground support, and as a command center, explains Assistant Chief Paul Hardnock. This unit was a demo that met the association’s needs and was short enough to fit in the station.
Features/Equipment:

  • STERLING Acterra chassis with 206-inch wheelbase and two-seat cab with walk-through to body;
  • CATERPILLAR C7 300-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 3000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • 19-foot, walk-in body with four seats, command center, and EMS and fire radios;
  • two HURST power units;
  • RAMSEY 4 1/2-ton portable winch with three receivers;
  • four-bottle, 6,000-psi air cascade system; and
  • light and power with ONAN 25-kw PTO generator, AKRON light tower, four FRC floodlights (two telescoping front, two on tripod rear), six CODE 3 fixed scene lights on body, and one HANNAY electric cord reel.


The Hammond (IN) Fire Department replaced a 75-foot aerial with this AMERICAN La FRANCE 110-foot quint to provide the needed extra reach for the heavy industry in the district, according to Deputy Chief Patrick Moore. The quint covers for an engine in the same station when required.

  • Eagle 134 chassis with 238-inch wheelbase and six-seat cab;
  • DETROIT Series 60 500-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 4000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • AMERICAN LA FRANCE Twin Flow single-stage, 2,000-gpm pump with five-inch rear discharge and two 1 3/4-inch crosslays;
  • UPF 300-gallon water tank;
  • 110-foot aerial ladder with 750-pound tip load (600 pounds wet), AKRON StreamMaster ladderpipe and 16-foot outrigger spread;
  • ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors and seven wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders; and
  • light and power with HARRISON 10-kw hydraulic generator, four FRC floodlights (two on body and two at aerial tip), and two HANNAY electric cord reels.


Mahwah Township. (NJ) Fire Company 4 has in service this SEAGRAVE pumper tanker. Captain Chris Konash says it responds to the southern section of the township and covers numerous nonhydranted areas as well as Interstate 287. The company specified a high horsepower engine to address the hilly terrain.
Features/Equipment:

  • TE chassis with 216-inch wheelbase and 10-inch raised roof cab with eight seats;
  • DETROIT Series 60 525-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 4000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • HALE Qmax single-stage, 2000-gpm pump with three two-inch crosslays, midship one-inch forestry hose reel, three two-inch rear preconnects, one three-inch rear discharge, and TFT Crossfire monitor with Extenda-Gun;
  • UPF 2500-gallon water tank with two 2 1/2-inch direct fills and three 10-inch NEWTON dump valves (left/right/rear);
  • ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors and four wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
  • ON SPOT ice chains; and
  • light and power with HARRISON 10-kw PTO generator, eight FRC floodlights (two telescoping, four on sides of body, one each brow and rear), two WHELEN scene lights on cab and one HANNAY electric cord reel.


The Hazelwood (MO) Fire Department adopted the St. Louis quint concept when purchasing this SMEAL apparatus. Chief Jim Mathies says that with this truck, the department now has an aerial apparatus for both sides of the city. Reels are mounted at the front and rear for safety on highways.

  4. UPF 500-gallon water and 50-gallon foam tanks;
  5. 75-foot aerial ladder with 500-pound wet tipload (750 pounds dry), AKRON StreamMaster ladderpipe, and 18-foot outrigger spread;
  6. six sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
  7. two HANNAY hydraulic reels for CODE 3 extrication tools; and
  8. light and power with HONDA five-kw gasoline generator, six FRC floodlights (two midship, two rear of body, two on aerial), and one HANNAY electric cord reel.


    The New Auburn (WI) Fire Department uses two W.S. DARLEY apparatus outfitted with CAFS, according to member Ernie Sylvester. The pumper’s CAFS helps with extinguishing capability and water conservation. The wildland unit doubles as a quick-attack pumper in areas around lakes, residences with narrow driveways, and winding roads.

    • PRO POLY 1,000-gallon water and 25-gallon foam tanks;
    • DARLEY ground ladder rack;
    • four-bottle air cascade system with one fill station;
    • ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors; and
    • light and power with HONDA five-kw gasoline generator and four FRC telescoping floodlights.

    • FORD F-450 4 × 4 chassis with 140-inch wheelbase and two-seat cab;
    • INTERNATIONAL 6L 325-hp diesel engine with FORD Torque Shift automatic transmission;
    • DARLEY 2 1/2 AGE single-stage pump (200-gpm @ 85-psi) with two one-inch booster reels, and two 1 1/2-inch panel discharges both plumbed for CAFS;
    • DARLEY Fast Foam 50 foam system with underhood 140-cfm rotary screw air compressor;
    • PRO POLY 300-gallon water and 12-gallon foam tanks; and
    • rear mounted FRC floodlight.
