APPARATUS DELIVERIES

The Alachua County (FL) Fire Rescue Department designed its E-ONE rescue truck for USAR and specialized rescue, according to PIO Megan Crandall. The apparatus has full ALS capabilities and responds as a support unit to all fires on the west side of the county.

Features/Equipment:


• Typhoon chassis with 180-inch wheelbase and six-seat cab;

CUMMINS ISL 350-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 3000 EVS-P automatic transmission;

• 18-foot nonwalk-in body with ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors;

• six-bottle, 4,500-psi air cascade system;

• two HURST tools and two HANNAY hydraulic reels in front bumper;

MEDTRONIC Life Pack 10 AED; and

• light and power with WINCO 25-kw PTO generator, WILL BURT light tower, two WHELEN fixed scene lights (one on each side of body), two HAVIS SHIELDS tripod floodlights at rear of body, and one HANNAY electric cord reel.

The Northwest Fire District in Tucson, Arizona, uses this CRASH RESCUE EQUIPMENT SERVICE unit to provide initial fire suppression for the Marana Regional Airport, explains Division Chief Randy Karrer. It is also used for transportation fires on the nearby interstate and railroad.

TRI-MAX twin-agent, high-energy cold foam (150 gallons) and encapsulated Purple K dry chemical (500 pounds) with HYDRO-CHEM technology with handline and HYDRO-CHEM bumper turret;

FLIR BALL cab-controlled infrared thermal imaging camera (for nighttime and low-visibility situations) attached to bumper turret; and

UNITY spotlight on roof and driver’s side of body and two HAVIS SHIELDS COLLINS FX-12 spot/floodlights at rear of body.

The Meridian (MS) Fire Department uses this PIERCE pumper for fire, EMS calls, and extrications within its district. It also responds to large spills and leaks and serves as a backup for the department’s rescue unit, according to Chief Sammy Foy.

UPF 1,000-gallon water and 25-gallon Class A and 25-gallon Class B foam tanks;

GORTITE roll-up compartment doors and four wheel-well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;

HURST tools; and

• light and power with HARRISON 10-kw hydraulic generator and two AKRON extendable floodlights mounted midship.

The Jackson (TN) Fire Department designed its HME apparatus as a quint and stationed it with an engine so that the two together can initially address all critical fireground functions, explains Chief Mike Morgan. The department considers the platform a safer alternative than an aerial for rescue, ventilation, and water application.

GORTITE roll-up compartment doors and eight wheel-well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders and rear chute hosebed; and

• light and power with ONAN eight-kw hydraulic PTO generator, four WHELEN scene lights, four FRC floodlights (two at rear of platform, two on tripods), four HAVIS SHIELDS floodlights (two each front of platform and bed section of ladder), and one HANNAY electric cord reel.

The Burlington (NC) Fire Department designed its SMEAL pumper for municipal firefighting and to respond to medical calls, according to Chief Jay Smith.

UPF 500-gallon water and 50-gallon foam tanks;

ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors and four wheel-well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;

SMEAL ladder rack with pike pole storage;

ON SPOT chains;

LAERDAL AED; and

• light and power with HONDA 6.5-kw gasoline generator and four FRC floodlights (two telescoping and two low adjustable, low profile on side).

The North Custer Rural Fire District in Challis, Idaho, designed this DANKO unit to respond to MVAs and as a quick response wildland interface vehicle, according to Chairman Bert Doughty.
