Apparatus Deliveries

The Lexington (KY) Fire Department serves all of Lafayette County, constituting 285 square miles and a population of 309,000 and includes urban, suburban, and rural areas. Assistant Chief Harold Hoskins says that the five E-ONE pumpers were designed to provide the highest level of safety for crews and maximum compartment space.

Features/Equipment:

  • Typhoon chassis with 198-inch wheelbase and a five-seat cab with 12-inch raised roof;
  • driver’s side external cab compartment with engineer’s gear; an SCBA; and a CTECH drawer unit for adaptors, appliances, and other tools;
  • CUMMINS ISL 450-hp diesel engine with an ALLISON 3000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • UPF 980-gallon water, 30-gallon A and 20-gallon B foam tanks (B tank is not connected to the foam system);
  • WATEROUS CSU single-stage, 1,500-gpm pump with Advantus 3.0 foam system, five-inch front intake, 1¾-inch front bumper line, two 1¾-inch crosslays, transverse tray for dead lay high-rise packs, two 1½-inch rear discharges (one with a 1¾-inch preconnect), and an ELKHART Stinger monitor with a self-educting fog foam nozzle;
  • HUSKY 2,000-gallon, self-supporting portable water tank to augment rural firefighting;
  • E-ONE ladder rack at side of hosebed wall for ground ladders and pike poles;
  • four wheel well compartments for spare SCBA and hand fire extinguishers;
  • HOLMATRO tools on two of the pumpers that support the technical rescue team;
  • ZOLL AED; and
  • lighting with a FIRE TECH 72-inch brow light and WHELEN telescoping floodlights at rear of cab.

The Irving (TX) Fire Department designed this PIERCE aerial ladder truck to meet the requirements of a tighter turning area, a roomier cab, and plenty of compartment space, says Assistant Chief Tony Harvey. The unit has many apartment buildings with tight areas in their district. It was part of a larger order that included three pumpers.

Features/Equipment:

  • Dash CF chassis with 259-inch wheelbase; five-seat, notched-roof cab; and EMS compartment with interior/exterior access;
  • DETROIT DD 13 500-hp diesel engine with an ALLISON 4000 EVS-P automatic transmission;
  • AMDOR roll-up compartment doors and two double sleeves for four spare SCBA cylinders;
  • PIERCE Command Zone with rear and passenger side cameras;
  • 105-foot aerial ladder with 500-pound tip load, 14-foot outrigger spread and Stokes and backboard storage behind the bed section ladder sign on the officer’s side;
  • AKRON Stream Master ladderpipe;
  • 127 feet of ground ladders and a LITTLE GIANT;
  • HOLMATRO rescue tools;
  • PHYSIO CONTROL AED; and
  • light and power with a HARRISON 10-kw hydraulic generator, three-kw COMMAND LIGHT, six AKRON floodlights (two at aerial tip and four on sides of body), and two AKRON electric cord reels.

The Excelsior Engine Company, Pearl River, New York, designed this ROSENBAUER pumper for responses to all calls including carbon monoxide alarms, extrications, and structure fires, explains Captain Joel Spoelstra. The pumper has an enclosed pump panel for protection from the elements.

  • Commander chassis with 217-inch wheelbase and 11-inch raised-roof cab with seven seats;
  • CUMMINS ISX 500-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 4000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • UPF 750-gallon water and 30-gallon foam tank;
  • ROM roll-up compartment doors and six wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
  • WATEROUS CMU two-stage, 1,500-gpm pump with six-inch front intake. ELKHART built-in foam eductor, 2½-inch front bumper discharge with wye and 1¾-inch preconnect, three crosslays (two 1¾-inch and one 2½-inch), and a TFT Hurricane deck gun;
  • HURST rescue tools and three HANNAY hydraulic reels;
  • HEART START AED; and
  • light and power with a HARRISON 15-kw hydraulic generator, WILL BURT Night Scan, eight WHELEN scene lights (two on brow and six on body), and one HANNAY electric cord reel.
