Apparatus Deliveries

The Mokena (IL) Fire Protection District designed this ALEXIS pumper to be first out in response to structure fires and auto accidents, says Chief Howard Stephens.

Features/Equipment:

  • SPARTAN Metro Star MFD chassis with 199-inch wheelbase and a 10-inch raised roof cab with four seats and two medical cabinets;
  • CUMMINS ISL 9 450-hp diesel engine with an ALLISON 3000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • PRO POLY 1,000-gallon water tank;
  • ZICO hydraulic ladder rack and pike pole storage compartment with left side rear access;
  • REESE rear hitch;
  • WATEROUS CSU single-stage, 1,500-gpm pump with five-inch front intake, an AKRON Apollo deck gun, three crosslays (two 1¾-inch and one 2½-inch plus a 1¾-inch deadload), 1¾-inch front bumper line, and a rear 2½-inch preconnect to a TFT Blitzfire monitor;
  • GENESIS rescue tools;
  • ZOLL AED;
  • ROM roll-up compartment doors and two dual wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
  • AUDIOVOX rear camera; and
  • light and power with an ONAN 7.5-kw diesel generator, COMMAND LIGHT Knight, and five WHELEN scene lights (one brow and two each on side and rear).

In the Bay Head (NJ) Fire Department’s 100+ years of existence, it had never needed an aerial ladder truck, says Truck Committee Chairman Fred Applegate. However, when Hurricane Sandy hit, it destroyed or damaged many homes and businesses. Rebuilding these structures had to be done according to Federal Emergency Management Agency flood elevation standards, which resulted in structures being built taller. The department now uses this FERRARA vehicle as a truck with pumping capabilities.

Features/Equipment:

  • Cinder chassis with 210-inch wheelbase and six-seat cab;
  • CUMMINS ISL 9 450-hp diesel engine;
  • HALE Qmax single-stage, 1,500-gpm pump with 1¾-inch front bumper line, three crosslays (two 1¾-inch and one 2½-inch), and one three inch rear discharge;
  • UPF 500-gallon water tank;
  • 77-foot aerial ladder with 500-pound tip load and 18-foot outrigger spread;
  • ELKHART Scorpion ladderpipe;
  • ROM roll-up compartment doors and three dual wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders; and
  • two portable KIPON gasoline generators with a floodlight on each side.

The Crossnore (NC) Fire Department runs this 4 GUYS pumper first out for all calls from October through the spring because of its four-wheel-drive capability, says Chief Dean Gibbs. The department is located in the high country (“Christmas Tree Country”) in the western part of the state. It runs second or third out the rest of the year.

Features/Equipment:

  • FREIGHTLINER 108 SD 4 × 4 chassis with 196-inch wheelbase and two-seat cab;
