The Oxford (MA) Fire EMS Department replaced a pumper with this SMEAL quint. Chief Jeffrey Wilson says that the district is experiencing extensive growth, and this vehicle provides ladder and heavy stream capability because the department’s primary ladder truck is a distance away.

Features/Equipment:

  • SPARTAN chassis with 212-inch wheelbase and six-seat cab;
  • CUMMINS ISL 400-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 3000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • WATEROUS CS single-stage, 1,250-gpm pump with 1¾-inch front bumper line, three crosslays (two 1¾- and one 2½-inch), and rear HANNAY hosereel with one-inch forestry hose;
  • UPF 750-gallon water tank;
  • 55-foot aerial ladder with 500-pound tip load and 13-foot, six-inch outrigger spread;
  • AKRON StreamMaster ladderpipe;
  • ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors and four wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
  • LANCER extrication tool;
  • MEDTRONIC AED; and
  • light and power with ONAN 10-kw hydraulic generator, two WHELEN scene lights on cab, two HAVIS SHIELDS COLLINS telescoping midship floodlights, one FRC floodlight on ladder tip, three COLLINS spot/floodlights (one at ladder tip, two at ladder base), and one HANNAY electric cord reel.


The Coalinga (CA) Fire Department uses this E.J. METALS quick attack/brush truck primarily to access grass fires in its first-in area and to support all other responses (EMS, motor vehicle accidents, and structure fires), says Captain Keith Krider. It is also available as a Type 4 resource for the state mutual-aid system.

  • FORD F-450 XLT Super Duty 4 × 4 chassis with 162-inch wheelbase and five-seat extended cab;
  • FORD 6.4L Power Stroke diesel engine with automatic transmission;
  • DARLEY 1½ AGE single-stage pump (180 gpm at 100 psi, 150 gpm at 130 psi, and 80 gpm at 210 psi) with KUBOTA 22-hp diesel engine, SCOTTY mini around-the-pump foam proportioner, 1½-inch front bumper line, 1½-inch preconnect in rear hosebed, and one-inch booster reel;
  • PRO POLY 300-gallon water and 10-gallon foam tanks; and
  • two wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders.


The Marrs Township (IN) Fire Department is bordered by the Ohio and Wabash Rivers. Chief Don Montgomery says this E-ONE dive truck responds locally and on mutual aid, which includes Kentucky and Illinois. The unit usually responds to lakes and ponds and also performs ice rescue.

  • FORD 6.0L power Stroke diesel engine with automatic transmission;
  • 12-foot walk-in body with six seats with left side ZIP DEE awning, six individual diver compartments, FEDERAL scene lights, and two HAVIS SHIELDS COLLINS scene lights (one each side);
  • four wall-mounted scuba sets and 12 spare bottles;
  • eight dry suits and three ice suits;
  • 10 life jackets;
  • NORCOLD refrigerator;
  • TFT LCD back-up camera;
  • RAMSEY front mounted, six-ton winch;
  • EVINRUDE 90-hp outboard motor; and
  • rear hitch for use with electric brakes to pull 19-foot rescue boat, KAWASAKI 1200 jet skis, or command trailer.
