APPARATUS DELIVERIES

The Ovilla (TX) Fire Department has in service two apparatus built by SVI TRUCKS, INC. The first is a quick attack/medical rescue unit. According to Chief Donnie Pickard, the unit allows response to motor vehicle accidents, the provision of patient care, and extinguishment of fires with the CAFS. The second unit, an air/light truck with rehab capabilities, renders fireground support for Ovilla and nine other fire departments within the Ellis Dallas Unified Cooperative Team (EDUCT).


Features/Equipment (quick attack unit):

  • FORD F-650 chassis with 158-inch wheelbase and three-seat cab;
  • CUMMINS ISB 245-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 3000 EVS-P automatic transmission;
  • DARLEY 1 1/2-AGE pump with CAF mixpoint and Odin Foam Mustang self-contained pump (DARLEY Fast Foam 50) on rearmount skid; skid includes a 300-gallon PRO POLY water tank;
  • DIAHATSU diesel engine to operate pump;
  • one-inch HANNAY booster reel and 1 3/4-inch preconnect;
  • 12-foot body with ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors and module for STOKES basket and backboard storage;
  • HOLMATRO rescue tools;
  • MEDTRONIC Life Pak 12 and basic life support equipment; and
  • light and power with ONAN 15-kw PTO generator, SVI Knight Light II with backlighting, and four WHELEN scene lights on side of body.

  • SPARTAN Big Easy MFD chassis with 182-inch wheelbase and six-seat cab with extended front bumper for tool storage;
  • CUMMINS ISC 330-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 3000 EVS-P automatic transmission;
  • 18-foot nonwalk-in body with ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors and transverse module for tent storage;
  • BAUER K.22 air compressor, six 6,000-psi bottle air cascade system, and three-position fill station;
  • storage for 14 spare SCBA cylinders;
  • CARE FREE street side and rear electric awnings. The street side awning includes wind monitor and retracts if wind gets too strong;
  • HANNAY electric cord and air reels; and
  • light and power with LIMA 40-kw PTO generator, two SVI Command Lights with backlighting, two FRC rear tripod floodlights and six WHELEN fixed scene lights (two left, two right, and rear of body).


The Willoughby Hills (OH) Fire Department designed this PIERCE quint for engine and truck company duties, explains Lieutenant Louis DiMattia, training officer and PIO. The department specified this aerial device (its first) because of the construction of high-rise apartments, large commercial buildings, and numerous three-story homes.

  • Dash chassis* with 215-inch wheelbase and six-seat cab with 10-inch raised roof;
  • DETROIT Series 60 505-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 4000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • WATEROUS CS single-stage, 2,000-gpm pump with three crosslays (one 1 3/4-inch, one two-inch, one 2 1/2-inch), and AKRON Stream Master platform monitor;
  • UPF 300-gallon water tank;
  • 100-foot platform with 1,000-pound payload capacity and 18-foot outrigger spread;
  • eight wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
  • HURST rescue tool; and
  • light and power with HARRISON 10-kw hydraulic generator, four FRC floodlights (two midship, two under platform), eight UNITY spot/floodlights (two each on platform, one each ladder storage box and rear) and one HANNAY electric cord reel.

* Dash chassis has been replaced by the Velocity model.


The Presumpscott Valley (ME) Haz Mat Team serves the Cumberland County communities of Gorham, Standish, Windham, Westbrook, and Scarborough. Gorham Deputy Chief Ken Fickett says this RESCUE 1 apparatus was designed for maximum storage with lift-up stairs behind which large items are kept. Using personnel from each fire department, the team provides haz mat and WMD response.

  • CUMMINS ISC 330-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 3000 EVS-P automatic transmission;
  • 22-foot nonwalk-in body with ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors, and rear electric over hydraulic lift-up stairway;
  • oil absorbent hopper with dump valve in upper compartment (pumps into container under vehicle);
  • two CARE FREE awnings;
  • storage for 4- × 8-foot sheets of plywood;
  • ZICO rack storage for 24 SCBA cylinders;
  • RAMSEY 4.5-ton portable winch with four receivers; and
  • light and power with ONAN 35-kw PTO generator, WILL BURT Night Scan with dual tilt capability, 10 fixed scene lights on body (four FRC, six WHELEN).


The Countryside Fire Protection District in Camargo, Illinois, designed this W.S. DARLEY pumper with a large water tank to allow for a strong initial attack that is supplemented by two tankers, explains Captain Chuck Dorsett. The department protects a rural area with no hydrants, and the CAFS conserves water. The top-mount pump panel allows an optimum view.

  • DARLEY LDMBC single-stage, 1,500-gpm pump with top-mount panel, 220-cfm AutoCAFS, HYPRO Foam Pro 2001 system, 1 3/4-inch front bumper line, two 1 3/4-inch speedlays, and one 2 1/2-inch rear preconnect;
  • PRO POLY 1,000-gallon water and 25-gallon foam tanks;
  • POLYBILT body with ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors and four wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders; and
  • two FRC floodlights behind the cab.


The Hialeah (FL) Fire Rescue designed this E-ONE mobile command unit to provide a unified command center that can accommodate multiple disciplines with various agencies that may be involved in a large incident, according to Chief Mike Cano of the division of logistics.

  • Cyclone II chassis with 250-inch wheelbase and two-seat cab;
  • CUMMINS CM 850 400-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 3000 EVS-P automatic transmission;
  • two 42-inch-wide slide-out body sides to increase work area;
