APPARATUS DELIVERIES

The Boston (MA) Fire Department (BFD) has in service three pumpers and one heavy rescue built by KME. Firefighter/PIO Steve McDonald says the pumpers were designed for general firefighting and have a short wheelbase for better maneuverability on tight, narrow streets as well as through traffic.

Features/Equipment:

• Predator LFD chassis with 170-inch wheelbase and 12-inch raised roof cab with six seats, medical cabinet, and PANASONIC Toughbook laptop computer;
• CUMMINS ISL 425-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 3000 EVS automatic transmission;
• WATEROUS CS single-stage, 1,250-gpm pump with preconnected front five-inch intake, three 2½-inch deadlays, rear 2½-inch discharge with 1¾-inch handline, and AKRON Apollo deck gun;
• UPF 530-gallon water tank;
• AMDOR roll-up compartment doors and four wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders; and
• four WHELEN floodlights (two each brow and on side of cab).

The BFD’s rescue truck was also designed with a short wheelbase and has a walk-though body to provide rehab, says Lieutenant Mike Walsh. It also has a better setup of tool mountings to expedite easier access.

• KME top rollover protection;
• CUMMINS ISL 425-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 3000 EVS automatic transmission;
• walk-in rescue body with four wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders plus a rack for three additional ones;
• NORCOLD refrigerator;
• RAMSEY front-mounted, 10-ton winch;
• HURST rescue tools; and
• light and power with HARRISON 20-kw hydraulic pto generator, six FRC floodlights (two brow, four on body), two WHELEN scene lights on side of cab, and two HANNAY electric cord reels.

The Perrysburg (OH) Fire Department was faced with a growing population from new developments with setbacks and lightweight construction. Assistant Chief Jeff McPherson says this PIERCE quint places emphasis on the safety of a platform when operating at these types of occupancies.

• Quantum chassis with 242-inch wheelbase and five-seat cab;
• DETROIT Series 60 515-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 4000 EVS automatic transmission;
• WATEROUS CS single-stage, 2,000-gpm pump with Husky 12 foam system and three crosslays (two 1¾- and one 2½-inch);
• UPF 250-gallon water and 25-gallon foam tanks;
• 100-foot platform with 1,000-pound payload and 18-foot outrigger spread;
• two AKRON StreamMaster monitors in platform (one each electric and manual);
• ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors and eight wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders; and
• light and power with HARRISON 10-kw hydraulic generator, nine FRC floodlights with five on platform (one at front, two at rear, and two underneath) and two each behind cab and portable mounted on catwalk area, three HAVIS SHIELDS COLLINS spot/floodlights (one on front of platform and two midship on ladder), and two FEDERAL scene lights at rear/side of cab.
