APPARATUS DELIVERIES

The Harrison (OH) Fire Department has in service two PIERCE apparatus: a pumper/tanker and a quint. Firefighter/Paramedic Jonathan Buesing says the pumper/tanker replaced a tanker and a fast-attack pumper and serves areas that do not have hydrants or where long lays are needed for water supply.

Harrison (OH) Fire Department

Features/Equipment:

  • Saber chassis with 190-inch wheelbase and four-seat cab with 12-inch raised roof and medical cabinet;
  • CUMMINS ISC 360-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 3000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • HALE Qflo single-stage, 1,250-gpm pump with preconnected six-inch front intake with a KEN MAR low-level strainer, three crosslays (two 1¾- and one 2½-inch), one 2½-inch rear discharge, and TFT Crossfire monitor with Extenda Gun;
  • UPF 2,000-gallon water tank with two 10-inch BRAY side dump valves and air-activated 10-inch AH STOCK rear dump valve;
  • GORTITE roll-up compartment doors on body and medical cabinet and four wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
  • PIERCE tank rack with 2,200-gallon FOL-DA-TANK;
  • SAFETY VISION back-up camera; and
  • six WHELEN fixed scene lights on body (two each left, right, and rear).


The quint replaced a mid-mount platform and is the primary apparatus out of its station. It is equipped for various types of emergencies and is commonly called on for mutual aid.

  • Velocity chassis with 256½-inch wheelbase and notched roof, six-seat cab with medical cabinet;
  • DETROIT Series 60 515-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 4000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • HALE Qmax single-stage, 2,000-gpm pump with front bumper two-inch discharge reduced with 1¾-inch line, three speedlays (two 1¾ and one 2½-inch), and 2½-inch deadload in crosslay;
  • UPF 400-gallon water tank;
  • 105-foot aerial ladder with 14-foot outrigger spread and 500-pound tip load;
  • AKRON Stream Master ladderpipe;
  • GORTITE roll-up compartment doors on body and medical cabinet and eight wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
  • HOLMATRO rescue tools;
  • PHILLIPS AED;
  • SAFETY VISION backup camera; and
  • light and power with SMART POWER 15-kw hydraulic generator, eight FRC floodlights (two each on cab, midship, aerial tip, and over rear wheel well), and two HANNAY electric cord reels.


The Jacksonville (FL) Fire Rescue Department uses this METALCRAFT MARINE CBRNE fireboat to respond to all inland waterway emergencies of the county. Captain Robert Turnbull says there are 35-40 miles of shoreline on the St. John’s River, and that the boat helps protect riverfront areas lined with petroleum companies, container ships, port restaurants, hotels, marinas, and private homes.

Jacksonville (FL) Fire Rescue Department

Features/Equipment:

  • Firestorm 70 model, 70 feet long with a 22-foot, 19-inch beam and a 42-inch draft with a top speed of 44 mph;
  • four CATERPILLAR C 18 1,015-hp diesel engines with four HAMILTON 403 jets and gearing for pumps and propulsion by ZF 550 gears;
  • four HALE 8FKF single-stage pumps rated from 14,000-gpm @ 150 psi to 18,000 @ 100 psi;
  • four ELKHART portable foam eductors and six 55-gallon foam tanks;
  • STANG 5,500-gpm roof monitor and four ELKHART monitors (two Scorpion RF 2,500-gpm at the fore deck and two Copperhead 1,250-gpm aft);
  • oversized rear door and standard side door of cabin to access patient area;
  • ZOLL AED;
  • OCEAN VIEW FLIR System camera with split screen options as well as an uplink camera that can be viewed from headquarters or an aircraft to aid in SAR missions.;
  • MOTOROLA ICOM and Piratecom and Furuno 3-D system communication; and
  • interior and exterior CBRNE agent detection equipment, and the bridge is an air tight compartment from the rest of the boat.
