The Boscobal (WI) Fire Department replaced a pumper and tanker with this CENTRAL STATES pumper-tanker. Chief Jeff Boughton says the department serves an urban and rural area. The front of the vehicle is set up for fire attack; the rear is set up for supply. This arrangement keeps the crews out of each other’s way.

The Boom Bay Volunteer Fire Department in Larson, Wisconsin, uses its ALUMITECH SAR airboat for rescues in water, ice, and mud, according to Firefighter/First Responder Ken Kronschnabel. The department also uses it to fight marsh fires in agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, uses its FOSTER auxiliary rescue unit to respond to emergencies in areas with limited access. Chief John O. Rulapaugh explains that this unit is airlift-ready when response time is a factor or can be towed to the scene by a 4 2 4 or 4 2 6 vehicle. It is used with a larger rescue truck or alone when that vehicle cannot access the site. The unit also supports the base’s haz-mat/WMD and dive teams.

The O’Neill (NE) Fire Department uses this CRIMSON unit as a rescue truck and firefighting unit. Chief Rod Ludeman says that it is designed to be maneuverable on dirt roads, on sandy hills, and in farm country. This unit is used in conjunction with a full-size pumper and is able to go where the larger unit cannot.

The Accord (NY) Fire District protects a large rural area and covers sections of U.S. Route 209. Chief Joe Bower says the department designed this MARION BODY WORKS rescue truck for extrication, for ambulance assistance, and to carry the rope team’s inventory.

  • CATERPILLAR 3126 330-hp diesel engine with ALLISON MD 3060P automatic transmission;
  • 16-foot walk-in body with four SCBA seats, ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors, and four sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
  • RAMSEY six-ton, front-mounted winch;
  • BAUER CSF-2M fill station with four-bottle air cascade system;
  • HOLMATRO rescue tools;
  • HANNAY air and hydraulic reels; and
  • light and power with MAGNA PLUS 12-kw PTO generator; four GFE telescoping floodlights (two pole raise at front of body, two on tripods at rear); and six WHELEN 9E 26-degree, fixed scene lights on body.

The Fishkill (NY) Fire Department designed this SAULSBURY pumper for rescue and firefighting in a jurisdiction that is 90 percent urban, according to Deputy Chief Rad Wilson. One side is laid out for rescue, the other side for firefighting.
