APPARATUS DELIVERIES

The Kossuth Volunteer Fire Department in Corinth, Mississippi, designed this ROSENBAUER/CENTRAL STATES pumper with a water tank sized to limit the vehicle weight, according to Chief Adron Hodum. A tanker supports the unit in the department’s 75-percent rural response area.

GMC TC 8500 chassis with 208-inch wheelbase and two-seat cab;

CATERPILLAR 3126B 300-hp diesel engine with ALLISON MD 3060 automatic transmission;

WATEROUS CSY single-stage, 1,250-gpm pump with 112-inch front bumper line, two 112-inch crosslays, and TFT Crossfire monitor;

UPF 1,000-gallon water tank with NEWTON 10-inch dump valve at rear;

ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors and four sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;

C & R 3,000-gallon folding water tank; and

• three WELDON fixed scene lights (one on each side over pump and one rear).

The Garden City (NY) Fire Department designed its SEAGRAVE pumper with a short wheelbase to enable it to make tight turns in parking fields and on college campuses. The short overall length allows it to fit into the department’s stations, according to Lieutenant Donald Franz, and the rescue-style body provides more equipment storage.

• Model TB chassis with 163-inch wheelbase (335-inch overall length) and six-seat cab;

DETROIT Series 60 430-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 4000 EVS automatic transmission;

HALE Qtwo two-stage, 1,500-gpm pump with six-inch front intake, two 134-inch crosslays, one 212-inch and two 134-inch rear preconnects, one-inch rear booster reel, and ELKHART Stinger monitor with TFT Extenda-gun;

UPF 500-gallon water tank; and

• two FRC pole raise floodlights midship and two CODE 3 scene lights (one each side of cab).

The Rockport (TX) Fire Department designed its SMEAL platform quint for self-sufficiency, according to Chief Doc Thomas. The department needed this vehicle to reach a shopping center and the many buildings in the district that are more than three stories high; it is also used in water rescue.

SPARTAN Gladiator chassis with 242-inch wheelbase and 10-inch raised roof cab with six seats;

DETROIT Series 60 475-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 4000 EVS automatic transmission;

WATEROUS CSUY single-stage, 1,500-gpm pump with three crosslays (two 112-inch, one 212-inch);

UPF 300-gallon water tank;

• 100-foot platform with 1,000-pound dry and 500-pound wet payload capacity, 18-foot outrigger spread, and AKRON StreamMaster monitor;

• eight wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders; and

• light and power with HARRISON 10-kw hydraulic generator, four GFE floodlights (two next to pump panel and two on body behind rear axle), two FRC floodlights at rear of platform, two HAVIS SHIELDS COLLINS spot/floodlights at front of platform, and two WHELEN scene lights (one each side of cab).

The Good Intent Fire Company of Pottsville, Pennsylvania, uses this KME pumper as an attack engine, explains Captain Jason Witmier, and it serves as the FAST unit for surrounding communities. The apparatus has a short wheelbase and overall length for maneuverability in tight streets and a large amount of storage.

UPF 500-gallon water and two 30-gallon foam tanks;

ROBINSON rear roll-up compartment door;

HOLMATRO combination tool and AMERICAN RESCUE TECHNOLOGY Hand Vario tool for FAST; and

• light and power with HARRISON 20-kw hydraulic generator, WILL BURT light tower, five FRC floodlights on cab, and HANNAY electric cord reel.

The Vernon (CA) Fire Department uses its FOSTER auxiliary rescue unit for numerous applications, explains Captain Michael Langer. It provides USAR when the regular unit is out of service, fireground support to free up other units, emergency building/shoring, training, and air and power supply.

HURST rescue tools and air bag command console.

The Centralia (WA) Fire Department felt a platform offered added firefighter safety compared to an aerial ladder and would better serve its target hazards, according to Chief Ray Denman. Station restrictions required the midmount design, which was built by AMERICAN LAFRANCE.

• light and power with ONAN 7.5-kw diesel generator, five FRC floodlights (two behind cab, two at rear of platform, and one underneath), two UNITY spotlights at rear of platform, and one HANNAY electric cord reel.
