APPARATUS DELIVERIES

Two state-of-the-art fireboats are in service in the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Fire Department. The first boat, Governador Fleury, is assigned to Guaruja/Santos, Sao Paulo State; the second, Comandante Cianciulli, is assigned to San Sabastiao, Sao Paulo State. Each boat has a captain, pilot, engineer, and two to three crew members.

The boats are 106 feet long and constructed of steel. They were delivered by Engineering Equipment Company, with Fryco of Houston being the naval architect and Trinit) Marine of New Orleans the builders. They are powered by twin Detroit 16V92TA diesel engines, each at 1,450-hp and coupled to Z-F Marine Gear propeller drives.

Two Aurora 5,280-gpm fire pumps are powered by Cummins KT19 diesel engines with 675 hp. Two 2,000-gpm, four-inch water/foam monitors are located on the fore deck and two similarly rated monitors for under-wharf attack are located in the bow. There are also two 1,320-gpm, three-inch foam/water monitors on the aft deck. The boats feature 65-foot Teiesqurt ladders with 1,000 gpm, threeinch remote control monitor.

Other firefighting equipment includes two reels on deck house roof with 150 feet of 1 1/2-inch foam/water attack lines; four six-inch water supply hydrants (two each fore and aft), each with a four-inch and two 2 1/2-inch hose bibbs; and two 525-gallon foam tanks with independent pumps and a balanced-pressure foam-proportioning system. Pumping controls are air-operated and controlled at the operator’s station in the pilot house.

The boats also feature a crew lounge with buffet serving area, sick bay with decompression chamber, captain’s state room, kitchen/ galley, and quarters for the entire crew.

On the aft deck is an eight-ton-capacity lift crane. The boats also have a 20-inch hydraulically powered bow thruster.

The Leon Valley (TX) Fire Department has in service this Pierce pumper, designed for response to fire and EMS calls.

Leon Valley is a growing city located in the northwest section of Bexar County and neighboring San Antonio. It covers about 3 5 square miles with a population of about 10,840. The city has more than two million square feet of commercial space, about one-quarter of which is office area. Residential areas include a 12-story high-rise, five apartment complexes, and one retirement complex. In addition, the city is home to 40 restaurants, three schools, a community center, a library, and a nursing home.

The pumper’s cab has six seats rather than 10; the remaining space is used to store EMS equipment. The Lance, tilt-cab chassis has a wheelbase of 229 inches. Of the 11 storage compartments in the body, two are 24 inches deep and full-size.

The pumper has a Waterous CMU two-stage, 2,000-gpm pump anti carries 750 gallons of water plus 40 gallons of three/six percent AFFF in conjunction with an Akron prepiped foam system. The vehicle has a 150-foot, 1 1/2-inch foam attack line. A three-inch prepiped Elkhart Stinger monitor with 1,000-to 1,250-gpm capacity, along with 1,000 feet of five-inch hose, also are featured.

Other items include a hydraulic ladder rack; a fivc-kw, gasolinedriven Honda generator; two 800-watt North Star extendable floodlights; Collins FX-12 Spot/FIoodlights in the rear; and a Heartstart automated external defibrillator (AEI)).

The Hilton Head Island Fire Department protects 70 percent of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. At its widest points, the island is about 12 miles long and seven miles wide.

The career fire department operates four stations with threeengines, a rescue, and a quint.

This Darley pumper, according to Assistant Chief of Operations Joseph Pelletier, was designed to provide protection to an area marked by high-density housing, marinas, and a heavily traveled transportation corridor. It also provides basic life support as part of the town’s EMS system.

The unit is mounted on a Spartan Gladiator tilt-cab chassis with seating for six. It is powered by a Detroit Series 60, 450-hp, diesel engine and has an Allison HT-740 automatic transmission.

The pump is a Darley Model EM, two-stage 1,250-gpm, with side intakes only. A three-inch pipe from it feeds an Akron Apollo SI monitor with 1,000-gpm nozzle.

Other features include an aluminum body with 12 storage compartments; a 500-gallon water tank; a 3 5-kw, gasoline-driven, Onan generator; and four 500-watt floodlights.
