>> The Spencer (MA) Fire Department designed this SMEAL platform in mid-mount fashion because of low railroad underpasses, says Chief Robert P. Parsons. It replaced an open cab aerial quint and has more seating and storage space, a higher payload, and a more manageable work area with the platform. The main part of town has large Victorian homes, three-deckers, and multistoried buildings.

It responds to structure fires and medical and rescue calls while providing extra lighting and rehab.
