The Wildwood Crest (NJ) Volunteer Fire Department designed this FERRARA quint in mid-mount fashion to fit into the station. Chief Ron Harwood says it replaced an articulated/telescoping platform. It also has quick setup capability that helps when staffing response is low. The quint also covers three towns on working structure fire calls and covers Lower Township on dual engine responses.

Features/Equipment:

  • Inferno chassis with 258-inch wheelbase and six-seat cab;
  • CUMMINS ISX 12 500-hp diesel engine;
  • WATEROUS CSU single-stage, 2,000-gpm pump with three crosslays (two 1¾-inch and one 2½-inch);
  • UPF 300-gallon water tank;
  • HD-100 platform with 18-foot outrigger spread, 500-pound tip load at 1,500 gpm, and two AKRON Streammaster monitors (one remote control and one manual);

  • wheel well sleeves for hand fire extinguishers and spare SCBA cylinders; and

The Lindenwold (NJ) Fire Department has in service the first KME Talon pumper with the High-Reach Extendable Turret device. Captain Steve Burns says the vehicle’s first-due area features many garden-style apartment complexes, some of which pose difficult access for major apparatus.   • Predator Severe Service chassis with a 203-inch wheelbase and six-seat cab;
  • CUMMINS ISX 12 450-hp diesel engine;

The Belvidere (IL) Fire Department designed this ALEXIS rescue pumper to respond to EMS, hazmat, motor vehicle accidents, and other rescue calls besides structure fires. Chief Al Hyser says it has a larger water tank than its predecessor, EMS equipment is stored in the cab, and features a “clean cab” design (turnout gear is stored in body compartments). He also says the top-mount pump panel affords off-street safety and firegound visibility.

Features/Equipment:

  • HME 1871 LFD chassis with 241-inch wheelbase, 24-inch front bumper extension, and 12-inch raised-roof cab with six seats and EMS storage;
  • CUMMINS ISL 9 370-hp diesel engine;
  • WATEROUS CXS single-stage, 1,500-gpm pump with an Aquis 1.5 foam system, 1¾-inch front bumper line, three cartridge preconnects (two 1¾-inch and one 2½-inch), rear 2½-inch preconnect wyed to one 1¾-inch line (the other capped), and an AKRON Apollo Hi Riser monitor;
  • PRO POLY 650-gallon water and 20-gallon foam tanks;
  • ROM roll-up compartment doors, two triple SCBA cylinder sleeves in the right wheel well, and a general storage sleeve in the left wheel well;
  • thru-the-tank ladder and hard suction storage;
  • AUDIOVOX backup camera;
  • PHYSIO CONTROL AED;
  • HURST E-Draulic rescue tools; and
