The Casa Grande (AZ) Fire Department’s PIERCE Skyboom is first out of Station 2 for structure fire responses, reports Chief Scott Miller. The unit runs with two other engines and is supported by a 100-foot platform if needed.

The Grosse Pointe Woods (MI) Public Safety Department dispatches this EMERGENCY ONE pumper first out to all residential and commercial fires. Corporal/Inspector James Lafer says it has rescue capabilities, large storage, a topmount pump panel for visibility, and a large cab for rehab and use as a command center.

The Topsham (ME) Fire Department designed its RESCUE 1 rescue truck on a smaller scale to fit in tight quarters, explains Chief Ken Brilliant. The department uses this truck as a first-out unit for extrications and as a light unit.

The Oxford (IL) Fire Protection District designed this ALEXIS pumper with a front-mounted pump for easy access to rural static water supplies, explains Chief Dennis Shannon. The extra space in the body allows for a cascade system behind the cab.

The East Pennsauken Volunteer Fire Association No. 1 in Pennsauken Township, New Jersey, designed this AMERICAN LAFRANCE pumper with rescue-style compartments to accommodate future inventory growth, according to District Chief Norman Figueroa, Jr. The L-shaped water tank allows for a lower hosebed for safety. The unit is also the township’s secondary FAST unit.

The Highview Fire Protection District in Louisville, Kentucky, designed its SEAGRAVE pumper with a short wheelbase to maneuver around the tight turns and narrow streets in a rapidly growing rural portion of the jurisdiction, explains Chief Richard Larkins. The larger water tank is used to draw from during long hose stretches and on freeway responses.
