The Grosse Ile (MI) Fire Rescue Department uses this KME rearmount rescue pumper for multiple function rescue and relaying water to a confined area, Firefighter/Engineer Chris Payette says. Grosse Ile is an island at the mouth of the Detroit River and Lake Erie.

  • INTERNATIONAL 4800 chassis with 157-inch wheelbase with four-wheel drive and two-seat cab;
  • INTERNATIONAL DT 530 330-hp diesel engine with ALLISON MD 3060P automatic transmission;
  • HALE PSD single-stage, 1,250-gpm rear-mounted pump with 13/4-inch front bumper line, ELKHART Sidewinder 350-gpm bumper turret, 13/4-inch preconnect in hosebed, and one-inch line on rear “belly pan” booster reel;
  • CFP 430-gallon fiberglass water tank and 20-gallon foam tank;
  • FRC Class B around-the-pump foam system;
  • 14-foot body with ROBINSON rollup doors;
  • WARN front-mounted, six-ton winch;
  • HURST Simo unit with dual 100-foot hydraulic reels and HANNAY 125-foot air reel; and light and power with an A.M.P.S. 15-kw PTO generator, WILL BURT six-kw Night Scan, four HAVIS SHIELDS Magna 3000 floodlights (two scene on body; two tripod at rear), six WHELEN fixed scene lights, and two HANNAY dual cord reels.

The Gordens Corner Fire Company, Manalapan Township, New Jersey, designed its PIERCE rescue pumper to carry as much equipment as possible in case of a staffing shortage, explains Commissioner Al Spector. The pump panel is recessed because there is a full-width compartment above it. Extra steps were installed to aid in accessing high compartments.

The Wintersville (OH) Fire and Rescue Department uses its EMERGENCY ONE quint as a first-out apparatus. The department designed the apparatus compartment by compartment to fit its specific needs, according to Chief Robert Herrington.

  • EMERGENCY ONE 500-gallon water and 30-gallon foam tanks;
  • 75-foot aerial ladder with 500-pound tip load, AKRON Stream Master 1,000-gpm ladderpipe, and 13-foot outrigger spread;
  • ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors; and
  • light and power with A.M.P.S. eight-kw hydraulic generator and five FRC floodlights (two each behind cab and rear, and one on aerial).

The City of Orange (CA) Fire Department designed this SEAGRAVE and SVI TRUCKS, INC. squad to place air/light, rehab, medium-duty USAR, and all truck inventory on one maneuverable vehicle to respond rapidly to any emergency scene, explains Battalion Chief Frank Eickoff. Previously, three unmanned vehicles carried most of this equipment.

The Slater Chemical Fire Company in Glenham, New York, replaced two vehicles with one AMERICAN LAFRANCE pumper by designing it with full length and height compartments, explains Public Information Officer Ralph E. Johnson. The vehicle also has a flat-roof cab and shorter wheelbase to fit in the station.

The Falmouth (ME) Fire-EMS Department replaced its old rescue truck (a used ambulance) with this RESCUE 1 unit with rehab and command post capability, according to Chief Jim Robertson.
