APPARATUS DEIIVERIES

SVI TRUCKS, a division of SUPER VACUUM MANUFACTURING, INC., built this rescue truck for the Denver (CO) Fire Department. Given the expansion that has taken place within its jurisdiction during the past two decades, the department designed the unit to be as versatile as practical, reports Captain Don Macia. The area will undergo extensive construction that will include a new airport and a light rail system.

Features/Equipment:

  • SEAGRAVE Marauder chassis;
  • cab with extended roof and seating for six;
  • 231-inch wheelbase;
  • 20-foot, steel walk-through rescue body;
  • 14 outside and seven inside storage compartments, some with slide-out trays;
  • six-ton, rear-mounted WARN winch with “A” frame assembly;
  • 75-kw, diesel-driven, W’INCO PTO generator:
  • two 40-kw SUPER VAC light towers; and
  • 20-cfm BAUER air compressor mounted with an EAGLE airpurifying system.

The jurisdiction encompasses heavy industrial areas, every range of residential neighborhood, more than 200 high-rises, a large rail center, four major interstate highways, and numerous lakes and rivers.

This foam resupply trailer, built by UNITED PLASTIC FABRICATORS, INC., has been added to the Air National Guard Fire Department fleet of seven crash vehicles and a pickup truck (used by the chief). The department protects the Joe Foss Field Regional Airport in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, which serves general aviation and military aircraft. The steel-frame trailer’s primary’ function will be to resupply a 2,000-gallon tanker and other crash vehicles, notes Chief Pat Lingor, shift supervisor.

  • 100-gpm foam pump with a l//-inch discharge;
  • l/Z-inch wye connection to accommodate dual-feed lines;
  • 1,000-gallon plastic foam tank that stores three percent AFFF;
  • crosstrays for 1 //-inch hose (front);
  • hosebed that holds 1,000 feet of five-inch hose (accessible at the rear);
  • storage box forward of hosebed; and
  • five-inch portable manifold that branches off to three 2//-inch discharges (for water resupply operations).

  • 1,000 feet of five-inch hose carried in the rear bed;
  • four crosslays carrying a total of 400 feet each of 2’Aand 1 inch hose;
  • AKRON foam eductor system;
  • 40-gallon foam tank;
  • 750-gallon booster tank;
  • four 500-watt extendable floodlights; and
  • 11 storage compartments that enclose all equipment including ladders, pike poles, and hard-suction hose.

Guilderland. situated west of Albany, is about six square miles and has a population of about 3,000. It contains predominantly residential properties interspersed w ith an assortment of businesses.
