Aug. 14—CROWN POINT — The Crown Point Fire Department saved a city employee trapped in a lift station Wednesday morning.

At approximately 10:08 a.m. the fire department responded to E. 129th Avenue and Mississippi Parkway for the rescue, officials said.

“Upon arrival, crews discovered a City of Crown Point employee fell into a lift station and was trapped at the bottom,” the City of Crown Point said in a statement.

The employee was rescued by the Crown Point Fire Technical Rescue by 11:14 a.m. The employee was airlifted to the University of Chicago Hyde Park with serious injuries, but in stable condition, officials said.

“We train every day to keep our community safe, and our Technical Rescue Team holds training monthly for situations just like this,” Crown Point Fire Chief Mark Baumgardner Jr. said. “The city workforce is like family, so when it’s one of our own, it’s more personal. We’re keeping this employee and their family in our thoughts.”

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been notified of the incident. No additional information is available at this time.
