Jul. 11—Firefighters on Thursday night battled a 4-alarm fire at an apartment complex on Roosevelt Boulevard in the city’s Rhawnhurst section, authorities said.

There were 42 people were displaced by the fire, a spokesperson for Red Cross said.

“On arrival companies found heavy smoke conditions emanating from the fourth floor. Companies went into service with an interior check to locate and find a fire while simultaneously looking for any occupants and making sure they were removed safely,” said Fire Commissioner Jeffrey Thompson told reporters on the.

Police said there were nearly 200 units in the complex and that the residents had been evacuated.

The blaze erupted around 9:30 p.m. at the 7400 Roosevelt Apartments on the 7400 block of the boulevard. It was under control by midnight.

The cause of the fire was unknown.
