Frontline Communications Delivers State-of-the-Art Mobile Command Vehicle to Montgomery County (PA) Department of Public Safety

APPLETON, Wis. (May 2, 2024) – Frontline Communications, a division of Pierce Manufacturing, Inc., and a subsidiary of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), announced the delivery of a C-44X-4 CC mobile command vehicle to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety in Pennsylvania. Sold through Frontline Communications dealer Glick Fire Equipment Co., the highly customized and advanced mobile command vehicle is an essential resource for the county’s 89 fire companies, 18 emergency medical service (EMS) squads, and 50 police departments serving a broad community of over 500 square miles.

“Selecting Frontline Communications for this project was an obvious choice given their track record for high-quality builds and our strong dealer relationship with Glick Fire Equipment,” Kevin Rairdon, Assistant Director of Emergency Communications Operations at the department, said. “Their expertise allowed us to tailor a vehicle which mirrors the capabilities of our Emergency Operations Center and is crucial for the wide array of incidents we manage.”

Now in service, “Field Comm 1” is a custom-built vehicle based on a Pierce Velocity® chassis, equipped with a PACCAR MX-13 engine, TAK-4® Independent Suspension and frontal impact and side roll protection.

Working closely with Montgomery County’s Department of Public Safety, we understood the critical need for a vehicle which could respond to their unique operational demands,” said Matt Wiedenhaefer, Sales Representative, Glick Fire Equipment. “This collaboration highlights our commitment to providing advanced vehicles which support the work of dedicated first responders. We’re proud to have been part of designing Field Comm 1, a vehicle which will serve as the backbone for effective emergency management and communications across Montgomery County.”

Given Montgomery County’s vast area, diverse landscape, and large population of over 860,000 citizens, the new mobile command vehicle was designed with robust features to meet the department’s unique challenges. The vehicle supports the county’s extensive emergency services, providing critical command and control capabilities at any location, under any conditions.

Montgomery County Department of Public Safety’s new Frontline Communications C-44X-4 CC mobile command vehicle features:

  • Command center with six mobile dispatch stations
  • LED underbody perimeter lighting
  • 42’ Will-Burt mast with integrated camera system
  • Four rooftop air conditioners and substantial power upgrades
  • Dual awnings for extended operational footprint
  • Full suite of advanced technology for seamless communication

Rairdon added, “Field Comm 1 is much more than a vehicle; it’s designed to mimic our Emergency Operations Center and deliver critical on-scene support exactly where and when it’s needed. We appreciate the support of the Montgomery County Commissioners Office as we obtained this state- of-the-art resource, which now sets a new standard for crisis management, serving our county’s diverse needs for the foreseeable future.”

The vehicle reflects the department’s forward-thinking approach to emergency management, equipped to handle a broad spectrum of scenarios, from everyday incidents to large-scale emergencies.
