A fire Wednesday evening brought more than 250 members of the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) to to a supermarket in Brooklyn.
FDNY firefighters responded to reports of smoke in the building at 1385 Bushwick Avenue, and the incident escalated to a five-alarm fire.
Crews showed up in three minutes to find fire communicated to adjoining buildings, according to FDNY First Deputy Commissioner Joe Pfeifer. The fire extended from the supermarket to at least four residential structures.
FDNY officials said the full response was closer to a seven- or eight-alarm response, with firefighting crews dealing with a significant amount of fire in various wood-frame buildings. EMS treated eight people, seven of them firefighters with minor injuries.
