Indianapolis Firefighters Rescue Unconscious Man from Burning Home

Firefighters at Indianapolis house fire with rescue Bacon Street

Indianapolis (IN) firefighters rescued a man who was trapped and seriously injured in a residential fire on Friday.

On September 22, 2023, Indy crews responded shortly after 8 p.m. to 1535 Bacon St. and found smoke showing from a single-story structure. Firefighters made entry and rescued the unconscious 67-year-old victim, carrying him outside and proving oxygen and emergent medical care. The man was conversing with firefighters before he was transported.

The fire was marked under control at 8:30 p.m.

Residents say the victim may have been ”tripped” by one of the home’s dogs, who got under his feet while he was smoking. When he fell, his cigarette perhaps caught nearby combustibles on fire.

RITA L. REITH is a battalion chief with the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) and serves as the agency’s public information officer.
