VA Firefighter Dies of Injuries Sustained in July Crash

A Louisa County (VA) firefighter has succumbed to injuries she sustained in an apparatus crash earlier this year, according to reports.

Mia Etheridge, 20, and another firefighter were responding to a call in July when the fire apparatus they were traveling in crashed into a tree near Peach Grove Road, according to WRIC.

A post from the fire department on Saturday indicated that she had passed away.

The other firefighter was reportedly treated and released from the hospital.

According to a report from WJLA, in addition to being a career firefighter in Louisa County, Etheridge was also a volunteer with Stafford Volunteer Fire Department.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, on Sunday, July 9, 2023, Firefighter Mia Regina Ethridge was responding to a residential structure fire when the fire apparatus she was driving ran off the road in the rain and hit a tree. She was ejected from the vehicle. Firefighter Ethridge was receiving treatment at the University of Virginia Medical Center when she succumbed to the injuries she sustained in the accident on Saturday, September 2, 2023. Firefighter Ethridge was wearing her seatbelt. Firefighter Ethridge was also a firefighter with the Stafford Volunteer Fire Department.
