Riker’s Island Inmate Starts Fire in Cell, 20 Injured

According to a report from FOX5, 10 staff members and five inmates needed hospitalization, primarily for smoke inhalation, and another five people refused treatment after an inmate lit a fire in his cell at Riker’s Island prison in New York on Thursday. 

Officials said the fire was reported at around 1:30 p.m. The Fire Department of New York said around 12 units and 60 firefighters responded to the scene.

The inmate who ignited the fire in his cell at the North Infirmary Command. The Department of Corrections said it would re-arrest the inmate.
