Mayday, Floor Collapse Injured Charleston (WV) Firefighter

A Charleston (WV) firefighter sustained nonlife-threatening injuries during a structure fire Sunday morning, according to reports.

Wowktv.com reported that crews responded to a fire in an abandoned residence at 726 Crescent Road at 10:33 a.m.

While firefighters were performing a search of the structure’s first floor, a large part of the second floor fell onto Captain John Hastings, who issued a Mayday call.

Firefighters reportedly dug through the debris for about 10 minutes to rescue Captain Hastings. He was transported to an area hospital and in stable condition. He was reportedly released from the hospital on Monday. There were no other reported injuries.
