According to a report from KOIN, a fire erupted at a multistory home that was under construction in Portland, Oregon, early Tuesday morning, eventually causing the structure to collapse and the fire to spread to nearby homes.
Portland Fire & Rescue (PFR) responded to the home in the city’s Irvington neighborhood just after 12:40 a.m. On arrival, PFR crews said they discovered down live power lines and needed to work around them. The fire also threatened nearby homes, prompting PFR to call for a second alarm.
PF&R said that, during the response, the home under construction suffered a complete structural collapse and fell down into itself.
The fire then spread to the homes situated to the north and south of the original fire home. One of the house’s windows were “blown out” by the fire, forcing crews to spray water directly into the home to prevent fire spread.
Fire then spread into the attic of the other home, prompting crews to attack it from the interior. PF&R said most of that home’s damage was inflicted on its upper level. All residents of the homes have been displaced.
Fire officials said there were no injuries to either crews or residents, and investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
