A Memphis (TN) firefighter was burned while responding to an apartment fire Tuesday.
According to a release from the department, Memphis Fire Department crews responded a little before 6 a.m. on August 16, 2022, to a fire at 269 Bond Ave.
Engine 20 reported finding a two-story, wood-frame apartment with smoke on the C side. Rescue and firefighting operations began immediately, with the fire placed under control at 6:24 a.m.
Nineteen fire apparatus and 45 fire personnel responded to the scene. There were no civilian injuries, however one firefighter was transported with second-degree burns to his shoulder and backs.
The released indicated no smoke alarms present. The fire caused an estimated $100K in damage, and was ruled accidental, having started in the rear of the structure.
Red Cross assistance was requested for 11 adults and 10 children.
The Memphis Fire Department has recently experienced a particularly rough stretch, including several apparatus accidents, one of which which left a firefighter dead.
