No Injuries After Plane Forced to Land on CA Highway, Erupts in Flames

According to a report from KTLA, a single-engine plane that was forced to land in the eastbound lanes of the 91 Freeway in Corona, California, Tuesday afternoon eventually burst into flames.

The emergency landing occurred just after 12:30 p.m. about 20 miles east of Anaheim. The single-engine Piper Cherokee fell from the air and crashed onto the freeway, leaving a trail of burning fuel as it slid toward the sound barrier. The Federal Aviation Administration, which later arrived on scene, called the incident a “forced landing.”

Both the plane’s pilot and passenger as well as the three occupants of a truck it contacted were unharmed.

Miller said that light traffic combined with the pilot’s landing skills avoided tragedy.

The eastbound lanes of the 91 Freeway were closed off for several hours while authorities removed debris. An investigated into the incident is continuing.
